D’Onta Foreman resolves marijuana and gun charges with a plea deal

Texans running back D'Onta Foreman‘s rookie season included an unexpected entanglement with the criminal justice system. The situation has now been resolved, for the most part.

According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, Foreman pleaded no contest to a charge of disorderly conduct, in exchange for a dismissal of marijuana possession and weapons charges.

The disorderly conduct charge eventually will be dismissed, if Foreman has no legal issues for 90 days. He will pay a $500 fine and surrender the gun that was found in his car.

It’s unclear whether the NFL will take action against Foreman. Typically, a marijuana incident results in a suspension, and the league may decide not to give credence to whatever deal may have been engineered to help him avoid pleading guilty to or being convicted of a marijuana charge.

Per McLain, Foreman’s lawyer is confident the player won’t be suspended. Which means that Foreman’s lawyer isn’t aware of the league office’s propensity to do whatever it wants in situations like this.

Report: 49ers’ Reuben Foster arrested in domestic violence case

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster has reportedly been arrested in a domestic violence case.

Foster was booked at the Santa Clara County Jail and is currently being held without bail, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The 23-year-old Foster is coming off a good rookie season and was expected to be one of the 49ers’ defensive building blocks. But he has a history of off-field issues, and this is the second time this offseason that he’s been arrested. He was previously arrested in Alabama for marijuana possession.

Last year Foster submitted a diluted urine sample at the Scouting Combine, which the NFL considers the same as a positive drug test, and he was sent home from the Combine because he had a run-in with a worker at an Indianapolis hospital while he was getting a medical evaluation.

The NFL will conduct its own investigation any time a player is accused of domestic violence. If Foster is found to have committed domestic violence, the typical punishment for a first offense is a six-game suspension.

What will NFL do with Reuben Foster case?
Posted by Mike Florio on February 12, 2018

49ers linebacker Reuben Foster has found trouble twice in less than a month, with his latest arrest being the most problematic.

As explained by the San Francisco Chronicle, the Sunday morning incident arises from charges of domestic violence, threats, and possession of an assault weapon. The call came at roughly 9:15 a.m. local time, and Foster was released on $75,000 bail at 6:35 p.m.

The San Jose Mercury News, via the Chronicle, reports that the alleged victim has been in a “long-term relationship” with Foster, and that police found what appeared to be an assault rifle when they responded.

The 49ers have issued the perfunctory statement about being “aware of the report” and taking “matters of this nature seriously,” and “gathering all pertinent information.” More than three years after the Ray Rice case, it’s now abundantly clear that what the team says or does doesn’t matter nearly as much as what the league office says and does.

Paid leave is possible for Foster, but the league in past cases has not felt compelled to initiate this device at a time when there’s nothing from which to be on paid leave; the players are off until the start of the offseason program in April. An investigation will definitely happen, with the league making its own decisions about what did and didn’t occur, regardless of whether Foster is or isn’t ultimately deemed to be guilty of a crime.

The baseline punishment for a domestic violence is now six games, but it’s a sliding scale based on factors that the league may or may not ever publicly disclose (e.g., Josh Brown’s one-game suspension). Presumably, the league will figure out what it wants to do before the start of the 2018 season, imposing discipline that will be very difficult for Foster to challenge, as evidenced by both the Tom Brady and Ezekiel Elliott lawsuits.

So, to answer the question is the headline to this item — what will the NFL do? — is the same answer that applies to every other incident involving off-field misconduct by a player: Whatever it wants. In the aftermath of Elliott, it’s now more clear than ever that the league’s internal procedures may be delayed but will never be defeated, no matter how illogical, inconsistent, or patently unfair to the player they may be.

Former Eagles fullback Jon Ritchie arrested for DUI

The celebrations in Philadelphia last week were mostly peaceful, but not necessarily without incident.

According to Rob Tornoe of Philly.com, former Eagles fullback and local radio personality Jon Ritchie was arrested for DUI and simple assault last Friday morning, hours after fans packed the streets for a victory parade.

The 43-year-old Ritchie also faces charges of recklessly endangering another person. He was released without bail, and has a court date on March 14.

Ritchie co-hosts a midday show on WIP radio and former Eagles offensive lineman Tra Thomas filled in for him Friday.

A former third-round pick of the Raiders, Ritchie spent five years with the Raiders, and also ran unsuccessfully for state Senate in 2016.

Weed was legalized to create revenue....one is through taxation....another is through prosecution....

Prosecuting arrests for weed doesn't generate $, it costs money.

He could face discipline under the NFL Personal Conduct Policy in both cases.

LOL Roger is going to put a foot up his ass!!!!

The only way we'll know for sure what really happened is by either a reinstatement of these men, or a permanent dismissal.

Lawyers aren't denying it happened, they are claiming she was OK with it. I find that harder to believe than she just kept her mouth shut figuring nobody would do a thing since guys get away with this kind of shit all the time.

When a denial is impossible to defend because of evidence, the next best response is consent. This is typical.

They should be fired.

Woman files police report, accusing Kareem Hunt of shoving her

Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt has been accused of shoving a woman during an altercation in Cleveland early Saturday morning.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the 19-year-old woman, Abigail Ottinger, told police that Hunt pushed and shoved her around 3:45 a.m. Saturday outside his apartment. Hunt grew up in the Cleveland area.

Another woman who was with the same group of people accused Ottinger of assaulting her, according to the report, and there are police reports listing both Hunt and Ottinger as suspects.

According to the report, Hunt was with a group of several people visiting multiple Cleveland bars, and they all came back to Hunt’s house. But Hunt’s friend says Hunt asked Ottinger and another woman to leave when he found out they were too young to drink legally.

The two women left the apartment but stayed in the hallway outside. Ottinger says Hunt went outside and shoved her, while another woman says Ottinger hit her in the face when she told Ottinger to leave.

Prosecutors have not filed charges against anyone.

And now it becomes obvious why Foster slid... Aside from his other concerns like health, in today's NFL you just can't draft full retard.

It's a damn good thing they also came out of round one with Soloman Thomas.

I do not live in Cali but it's illegal to have a assault rifle there? wtf?

Like only a deer rifle with X mount of rounds? Or appearance of tactical? Or what? Haven't heard of a state wide ban on AR's before anywhere.

Your rifle can't be semi-automatic. It has to have what's called a "bullet button" that you press between rounds.

Semi-automatic is evil-bad and must be stopped.

That's not accurate. You can have a semi auto rifle or hand gun. On a rifle that has a pistol grip and is magazine fed, you have to have the "bullet button" to detach the magazine. If you put a "regular" rifle grip you don't need the bullet button. Thordsen makes a grip and but stock combo that make the assualt rifle a "regular" rifle. Also you can't have a collapsible stock. I'm building an AR now and just need the stock/grip. If you have a standard looking assault rifle (think AR type), you have to register it with the state and you cannot sell it or give it away or put it in your will for your family.

Stupid California.

One thing us Rams fans have been able to be happy about this past decade is not worrying about this thread.
