It's for 20 years - not 10. The first 10 years are $2 million per. I'm guessing he wants a championship and to stay in Southern California. Still not sure how much is guaranteed. Obviously, he would be pretty long in the tooth if he played out the entire contract so there has to be some details we have yet to see. If the whole thing is guaranteed, I'm guessing they have some kind of out for injury or performance.

And now… I gotta fulfill my end of the bargain and both buy an Ohtani jersey as well as start watching Dodger baseball…

I’m actually looking forward to it, although there is no referee or umpire worse than a bitchy baseball ump… some of those guys need to take some Midol and get over themselves

I agree with the argument that the Ohtani contract should not be allowed. ( and no I didn’t want the Yankees to get him)

It circumvents the Luxury tax threshold. I’m surprised mlb okayed it.

Pushing it back ten years won’t be as big of a deal. In 10 years a 68 million a year player may not be so out of alignment for some teams. But having a 35 million dollar a year player right now is. It goes against competitive balance.

This isn't the first deferral contract it's just the most extreme. Deferrals like this have been in baseball for a very long time with the most famous being Bobby Bonilla who at 60 years of age is still going to be paid by the Mets on July 1st every year until 2035.
