I'm too lazy to go look up the names of the guys the Titans drafted with the picks we sent them for the right to draft Goff. That being said, I'm pretty damn sure about this next statement: Those guys, taken singly or as a group, still would not have had the positive impact on the Rams franchise that Goff is having now.

Hell yes it was worth it.

Round 1, Pick 5 (2017) — Corey Davis, WR

Round 1, Pick 8 (2016) — Jack Conklin, OL*

Round 2, Pick 43 (2016) — Austin Johnson, DT

Round 2, Pick 45 (2016) — Derrick Henry, RB

Round 3, Pick 100 (2017) — Jonnu Smith, TE

Round 5, Pick 157 (2016) — LeShaun Sims*

Round 7, Pick 253 (206) — Kalan Reed*

Thank, @OldSchool - and yes, I stand by my assertion. All those guys together wouldn't make the same amount of positive difference for the Rams that Goff is making now.

Some damned good players in there for sure, and for the record those are final picks keep in mind they traded around with the Browns to move some picks. But without a QB those guys aren't going to win any games. Even with trading those picks we were able to surround Jared with remaining picks, including a couple trade downs to add more picks, and free agency. The notion that we sold the farm is just silly.

I liked the deal when it happened and I'm loving it right now. Goff is everything @jrry32 said he'd be to be honest. He's starting to learn how to control the play from pre snap to post snap and it's scary how much room for improvement there is from Goff. Just needs to scramble on 2-4 plays a game instead of going for the difficult on the run throw. He can scoot and matched with his natural instincts, he will be the most frustrating QB outside of Rodgers to play in a year. Just thrilled with him.

That 61 yard Bomb, sexy!

Totally worth it.
Plus, I’m a bit tired of hearing about McVay, Whitworth and Woods.
Goff is the real deal, period.
Everybody wants this stud, cut, running QB.
Goff has it where it counts - between the ears, and behind the breastbone.

His demeanor is incredible - the absolute shitshow he went through last year - never bitched or made excuses.

I believe he knew his “teachers” didn’t know their ass, but he kept quiet.

Absofuckinglutely love the guy.

If you are watching MNF, you can see how important it is to have a franchise QB. With Rogers the Pack has made the playoffs 8 straight years and some of those teams were very marginal...

Now without him they are showing you how a talented Packer team is dead in the water.

If Goff did not pan out this year I would have been on board to go trade up for another one until you get it right.

It matters little what you give up for a franchise QB, what matters is if you have one and that you provide coaching and players that assist in his development. Watch 5 years from now they’ll laugh that we ‘ only’ have that much up for Goff. I have a feeling we’re going to the NFC championship this year and that doesn’t happen without Goff

Rematch NFC Championship between the Eagles and us.

If there is a QB there that's a franchise type then an NFL team has to do what it takes to get him. You don't win in today's NFL without a QB.

Yup, you either have, or have not.

Yeah Goff may not be solo carrying the team, but his performance is certainly sustainable in the long run.

I don't want a QB that is carrying a team, that's not sustainable. I want a team with a great QB.

And that's what we seem to have now.

2. He was the more pro ready.

I'm not sure that is a fact because he isn't playing a true NFL O, while Goff is.

And "pro ready" IMO means knowing the pocket, and in that case Goff was more "pro ready".

An interesting side topic is how future teams will use the Rams worst to first offense as a template of how to resurrect a franchise. The Rams are an interesting case study in how to go about changing your franchise in 1 offseason.

It may not work for every team but there are a couple takeaways from the transition the Rams made:

1 Move a bunch of picks to get your franchise QB. Make sure he’s a true solid prospect.

2 Bring in a proven, bright offensive mind that is currently leading a top NFL offense. Make him your head coach so he has free reign to implement his system.

3 Completely rebuild your Oline through Free agency with the best pass protectors available. Get out early in Free agency and get those guys.

4 Get a proven, tough, smart, excellent route running WR in Free agency.

5 Early draft picks on more reliable, smart WR’s/TE’s. Must run great routes and have great character and work ethic to learn the new system

6 Get a Dynamic RB that can catch balls out of the backfield. Unless you already have one.

7 Hit the Trade Wire for more playmakers at WR.

8 Hope for health and build your Oline depth.

How to be a millionaire:

1. Get a million dollars.

And what's really funny is would anyone really change the 2017 draft?? Glad we had the picks we had to get the players we got...

Ha.... the Rams sold the farm in 2016, and in the 2017 draft and FA went out and got a better farm. Things are looking like they've worked out so far. Moo!!

If you don’t have a QB, go get one.

Whatever it takes.

And if you mess it up, keep trying til you get it right.

Rams were obviously right to package picks to move up to number 1– not a close call.

The Rams had to bring in a QB after the Foles meltdown. Drafting and developing a QB is the correct way to go. To do that the rams gave up picks to do it, but only one extra first rounder. One of the 2nd rounders was left from the Bradford deal, one of the 3rd rounders was an extra pick from Jenkins going to the Giants. There is no debate the move was correct, the only debate is whether the Rams selected the correct QB in Goff over Wentz. Both QB's sure look good. I liked Goff over Wentz, Production over Potential. Same reason liked Matthews over Robinson in 2014, production over potential,

The rams were lucky Goff and wentz weren't thought of highly. It gave them the chance to move up from 15 to 1. No way they could've moved up if it was similar to the luck and rg3 hoopla. Funny thing is both will be better than those two hyped up qbs. And Winston and mariota.

That's my favorite part, both teams took so much garbage because they were trading up for 2 QB's that "weren't that good and wouldn't be 1st round picks if they went the year before". And here they are 2 bright young QB's looking better than the 2 taken at the top of the previous draft.

The Eagles would have been boned. The Titans weren't taking a QB. We would have been able to trade for #1, but the bidding might have gone higher.

Good point. And it's funny how at the time everyone was comparing them to Mariota and Winston like they weren't in the same class and I couldn't understand that then and I still don't. They were very much comparable to those guys and their jump this year pretty much settles that.

Also I am very glad the Rams got a pocket QB. The running types tend to do better out the gate but also tend to not last as long and/or fizzle if they can't develop a pocket presence. Pocket QBs last for a long time, especially ones who can dish that thing quick. Goff has a long and successful career ahead of him and hopefully we're just starting to see the beginnings of what he's capable of; the guy who started this season vs the guy who just torched the Giants demonstrate how incredible his growth has been. Dude looked a little Payton-esque running that no-huddle with the pre-snap looks and he straight killed it.

It's apparent that all these comments have failed to consider how crippled and hamstrung our team has been as result of the missing draft picks. Just look at how many glaring weaknesses there are on the roster and how much they've hurt the team. This is what happens when you give up a king's ransom for a bust of a qb.

Sorry just not true especially look at last year. We supposedly traded away a ton of picks yet in a 7 round draft we had how many picks? Yup 8 picks oh and 2016 yeah 6 picks. In the two years we had 14 picks in 14 rounds of draft picks. Yes we missed a 1st round pick this year and a 2nd round and 3rd the year before. We still had as many picks and we are most definitely not hamstrung. Our GM has done a good job filling out the roster with both draft picks and free agency. This narrative we missed out on draft picks and are a worse team for the trade just doesn't float. We have our franchise QB the single most important person on an NFL team. We have a damned good starting 22 and the best special teams in the NFL. We have some spots that aren't as deep as fans would like? Guess what all 32 teams can say the same thing. The Rams are just fine and they're better off for trading up for Jared Goff.
