Staffords back, no QB early.
I agree, though the Rams have a tendency to do unexpected shit on draft day.

Way I see this class, though, is that the value of the QB development options starts round 3ish. So it's about on par with backup Center in that regard. But I definitely don't see us taking Simpson in round 1.

If they do take Simpson in round 1, then it's an indicator they are more concerned with how much Stafford has left than they're letting on. Because as always with the Rams you gotta judge their thinking by their moves. Can't listen to a damn thing McVay says. :laugh2:

I don't really have a favorite yet among the QBs. I see a lot of potential fits for McVay in this class but the best route would probably be to just load the shit out of this team around Stafford. Even a 4th round pick on QB would potentially be a depth NT or CB or ILB or almost anything else that factors in to a 2026 run.

If looking for potential reclamation project, I'd say throw a cheap 2 year deal at Sam Howell
Or Zach Wilson, if he's grown up. Or trade a late round pick for Will Levis. We'll see, though. The two guys I find very intriguing in this Draft are Trinidad Chambliss and Cole Payton. With Payton, it hinges on his Senior Bowl performance. With Chambliss, it hinges on him actually being in the Draft.

Julian Neal 38" arms on top of that physicality... You payin attention Shula!?

I watched that and you would assume most here will tale Nuss off their wish list.
That shit was the last thing that kid needed. :laugh3:

Also gotta say it's kind of funny since I'm not usually inclined to see things similarly to McShay but the two dudes he mentioned being excited to see this week are two of the three QBs I'm most curious to watch. Those being Nussmeier and Robertson. Both being noteworthy from my point of view because neither were in ideal situations.

I disagree with this assessment. Snead has been open and vocal about wanting a successor to Stafford and has said that ideally you want him sitting and learning a year or two. The Rams always have eyes on the future.

That is the conundrum. Go all in for 26', or try to halve it and also spend resources for the future?

Their 25' draft class was not targeted to help this year. Maybe Stewart as a pass rush specialist, and they probably envisioned Ferguson as being at least a situational guy in certain packages. Everyone else were deep reserves and developmental guys. Had they spent a pick on a CB instead of Ferguson and or Hunter, maybe the secondary would have been much better by year's end.

So do they target every pick to be a player that has a great shot to help this coming season? Or do they still keep an eye on the future, like taking a guy like Simpson to learn under Stafford?

It will be a fascinating draft.

Keep reading that Chris Johnson (who I think is an ideal fit) may not have the speed to go early. Gonna be a good week to watch him and see how he does.

Really excited to see the matchups with the corners and wideouts. Good chance those two groups include two of our first 2 or 3 picks.

There's no way he has 38 inch arms. 36 inches is long for a LT. I can't think of the last player at any position who had 37 inch arms.
Shit typing on phone. Forget what they said, must have hit wrong number. Probably 35" arms.

The McSnead tandem has been pretty consistent over their 9 years.

Even when they were "going all in" a few years back by trading 1st round picks for Ramsey and Stafford, the rest of their draft picks were still targeted for needs a year ahead. They rarely drafted for immediate impact that year. Most of the time they would plug immediate holes with the free agent market.

Well, they often didn't have a lot of open spots. This team will go into next year as probably one of the top 5 SB favorites, assuming Stafford is here and is healthy. Yet, they do have some obvious needs. Glaring needs. So just makes you wonder if they burn pick 13 on a BPA that isn't a huge need, or do they take a QB, or do they force need with a player that might not be a top 13 guy or the BPA?

Nope, I want no part of any of these 6' mid dudes.
Wait on the QB. I do not care if you have to trade one of our 1sts for a 1st next year.

Robertson is at least 6'3". Heights aren't updated quite yet on the sites. But Payton is also 6'3". So two potential projects with tools and good fits for our bench if height is a prob. (Though to be honest Payton's lisp would probably drive me batshit if he were our QB. Seems like a great kid but listening to him is tough if you find that distracting which I do.)

Here's a good interview I came across on Robertson and general QB discussion for the Senior Bowl:

Glaring needs? How many drafts have they gone into with glaring needs? That's rare, right?

I expect that they will do what they typically do by addressing all acute needs before the draft.

I can also see them spending more money than we may expect by borrowing from future years (in Snead's terms breaking out the credit card) with the idea that in the near future we'll likely have a QB on a rookie contract.

To your question, maybe pick 13 is BPA or they take a QB, but I doubt they force a need pick because that has not been how they operate.

Curious how you would do that with the corner group, knowing four of them departing (3 FAs plus cutting Williams) is likely.

I'm guessing they sign one vet who is solid. But they can't really fill both starting jobs in FA. And I don't think that would be their style either.

This year is just gonna be one of those years where everyone knows the Rams are a team you jump ahead of if you need a corner.

Our front 7 is pretty good, but if they don't get home, the Rams get toasted. We need at least one solid CB either by draft or by FA. Defensive scheme can protect one lesser CB. But what happened? After the initial loss to the whiners, the Rams looked invincible. Did they peak too early and never got it back for some reason.?
