...then, at least in my opinion, it necessarily follows that Fisher is also that bad for insisting on keeping him.

It's been made abundantly clear that certain fans here do not care at all for Schottenheimer, and at least some in this group view him as totally incompetent and worthy of multiple F bombs within the same message. If he was THAT bad, then any competent head coach SHOULD be able to spot it and move on. Fisher obviously has not.

Even if Fisher makes a change in this offseason (which would honestly surprise me), then he's still criminally squandered three seasons and possibly done more harm than good for the offense during his tenure.

I'm not trying to say you can't have whatever opinion you want to have about Schottenheimer, but if he is that bad, Fisher can't go blameless here.

The thing is Schotty isn't that bad. He just lacks creativity and doesn't know how to make adjustments to his game plan when other teams adjust.. the problem is with our offensive personell he isn't the right guy

I think Schotty is growing with this team. Personally, I think it would be a mistake at this point to go another direction. I thought the plays have been there for several games. We are often either not performing or just shooting ourselves in the foot on many plays.

I would like to see us leave the coaches alone and see what happens. There isn't nedessarily a better option right now.

In my eyes, if you gave Schotty his choice of any players in the league, it would still result in a mediocre offense at best. Earlier in the season, I was thinking that under the best case scenarios, I could totally picture GW commanding an elite D but I could never picture Schotty commanding an elite O.

It's not just the fans that think he runs a bare bones offense with no creativity much of the time, it's most of the football community. The strange part of it is he seems to draw up some good plays and call good drives when they are scripted.

He doesn't seem to have any concept of clock management. When a team is down two scores half way through the 4th Q, who takes the full play clock to get the play in and then call a run up the middle? Who gives away possession, intentionally, almost every game?

Yeah, I'm with you. Schotty is on Fisher at this point. Just as with Davis, I think Fisher is loyal to a fault at times. I won't be surprised if Fisher changes OCs in the offseason. He's overly loyal, but in the end, he does make the change.

I think we have been stuck with him because of Bradford.

Fisher said he came here in large part because of Sam. In trying to keep some consistency around him, he's keep Schotty around to help develop Bradford.

I think (no I really hope), that if we draft a new QB for the future this year, we'll go a new direction with a OC as well.

Exactly. I think to major degree keeping him has been about having finally having consistency for Bradford. I don't think Schotty's the worst in the league by any means, I just don't like his inconsistency. It will be interesting to see what direction they go if they get rid of Sam.

If they do decide to get rid of Schottenheimer I really hope it's for someone that has promise, and not just another good ole boy that can fill in because we're tired of Schotty. I want to progress instead of regress in this situation finally please.

Not using his tools or knowing how and failing to adjust is exactly what makes a person bad. Otherwise it's just a kid that's really good at Madden.

When was the last time schotty had a successful offense. Not w us, not w the jets, it was when he was w the chargers and his dad was calling the shots.

I'm not defending Shotty here, because believe me...i don't like some of his tendencies at all, but think about this:
He's been the OC here for 43 total games. He's had a starting QB for only 23 of those games...and Shottenheimer likely has little to no input on player personnel decisions concerning QB contingencies either.

Otherwise known as Nepotism. lol. That's pretty much how I feel about the whole coaching staff. I was actually surprised when Walton got a shot as an unknown.

It's not that he is bad. If the overall goal is to build a team that wins a title I don't see him as good enough for that.

I am not even a Shottenheimer fan, but some of these statements are just ridiculous.

He's never had a successful offense? He's had some great games this year. And he can't suck too bad or he wouldn't have even made the playoffs with the Jets.

Good defenses tend to have an adverse effect on your offense, similar to what we did to the Broncos.

As well our overall talent level is less than what a lot of coordinators have at their disposal. Heck, it's not hard to figure out that he hasn't had his starting quarterback for a year and a half now.

Oh, but those are just excuses. Just excuses for Pat Shurmur. Just excuses for Josh McDaniels. Guys who are both doing well right now. But it's just more dramatic and fun to keep cycling through offensive coordinators and skill players when the offensive line continues to suffer.

I'm... not sure. I actually don't do much of anything with the Sportsbook, so I'm guessing it was all just me randomly babbling with a like here or there. ;)

He would need superstars on the O I think. Like Spagnuolo who was considered a defensive wizard but in hindsight with that Giants DL it was a little easy to look good. A couple of HOF guys and a couple of pro bowl guys. BS will need that too IMO.

I think it takes a really, really, really special OC to make magic with Kellen Clemens, Austin Davis and Shaun Hill at QB
Thanks for the perspective Boffo
