Crap. I was really hoping that he'd end up elsewhere.

Rumor is that he's grabbing John DeFilippo, and that's not good news for us. He's a brilliant offensive mind and should really help out whatever QB Arizona brings in.
I'm not going to fret too much at this point...

Despite the Rams home run with McVay... first time Head Coaches don't have the best track record.

Browns hire Todd Haley

The deal is done: The Browns have hired Todd Haley as their offensive coordinator, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Haley, 50, is expected to call plays under Hue Jackson, who doubled as the play-caller his first two seasons. Haley likely gets a rookie quarterback to coach, with the Browns expected to use the No. 1 overall pick on one.

The former head coach of the Chiefs ran one of the most explosive offensives in the NFL the past four seasons. But the Steelers did not renew his contract after their 45-42 loss to the Jaguars in the divisional round.

Haley has his work cut out for him with the Browns. They ranked 24th in total offense, 22nd in passing offense and 32nd in scoring.

They should have fired the defensive coordinator, not the offensive coordinator. I know losing Shazier was a blow but that defense gave up 45 points to the Jags in a playoff game. Haley just seems to have a way to wear out his welcome doesn't he?

One guy that I hoped would get a head coaching job was Shwartz. I want him out of Philly. He is a great DC.

I posted similar thoughts, but I have heard that Haley's relationship with Benjamin Todd Roethlisberger, plus a report on Deadspin that Haley and his wife were swingers and Steeler ownership might now have looked fondly on that. Again I don't get into the white noise, but everything plays a part.

Good move for Haley, if he gets that Browns offense humming, I'm sure it could lead to a possible Head Coaching gig, but it's not the first time that Todd Haley has rubbed people the wrong way and won't be the last.

Mike Vrabel already dealt a serious blow by not landing Ryan Day as his OC, as Day decided to say at The Ohio State University and received a promotion from Co-Offensive coordinator to Offensive Coordinator, but the irony is, so did co-offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson, he is now Offensive Coordinator, gotta love the college game, I'm sure they just matched the money, but shocked Day stayed.

Vrabel now will have to go to plan B, but IMHO, when you can't land your number one assistant, that sets you back, especially when he was available so it will not be a new day in Nashville.

Day denial leaves Titans still searching for OC

Mike Vrabel and the Tennessee Titans are stuck scrambling for an offensive coordinator after Ryan Day declined to move to the NFL.

Spagnuolo not staying with the Giants, wow, Shurmur shocking me here.

James Bettcher will be Giants defensive coordinator under Pat Shurmur, report says

Pat Shurmur acts fast.

The new Giants head coach will hire former Cardinals defensive coordinator James Bettcher to the same role, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. That means that the offensive-minded Shurmur made what likely will be his most significant hire on his first full day on the job.

Bettcher was only on the market for one day as he became available after the Cardinals hired former Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks as head coach to replace the retired Bruce Arians. He met with Shurmur and the Giants' brass while at the Senior Bowl, ESPN reported.

Wilks interviewed to be head coach of the Giants and Shurmur interviewed with the Cardinals. Bettcher reportedly interviewed to replace Arians as well.

Named the Arizona Cardinals’ head coach on Monday, Steve Wilks is already well down the road in filling out his coaching staff.

As the Cardinals enter into a post-Carson Palmer era with all of their backup quarterbacks hitting free agency, Wilks is expected to turn to veteran NFL coach Mike McCoy to fill in as offensive coordinator, reports 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro.

Would not be surprised if Mike McCoy ends up being Offensive Coordinator.

3:12 PM - Jan 22, 2018

McCoy spent part of 2017 as the Denver Broncos offensive coordinator but was fired after a six-game losing streak. Previously, he served as San Diego Chargers head coach from 2013-16, where he directed a Philip Rivers-led offense.

The 45-year-old entered the NFL with the Carolina Panthers as an offensive assistant coach in 2000. He held various offensive assistant jobs with Carolina and from 2004-08 worked directly with quarterbacks.

Next, he became the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Denver. He worked as Broncos offensive coordinator from 2010-12 before being hired by San Diego.

NFL reporter Jason La Canfora said Arizona might also consider Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo for the offensive coordinator job — he interviewed with the Cardinals in their coaching search process — but would also speak to McCoy and ex-Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.

Darrell Bevell is a hot coordinator. Arizona bringing him in tonite for interview and other teams interested as well

4:06 PM - Jan 22, 2018

La Canfora reported that Wilks is expected to bring on Panthers offensive line coach Ray Brown and could try to hire Carolina linebackers coach Al Holcomb to work as his defensive coordinator.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Holcomb is expected to be Wilks’ defensive coordinator.

The Charlotte Observer also reported that Holcomb is likely headed to the Cardinals.

Cardinals hire Al Holcomb as defensive coordinator

The Cardinals have done exactly what everyone excepted in filling their defensive coordinator job: They have hired Panthers linebackers coach Al Holcomb, Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports.

Holcomb spent five seasons working with new Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks in Carolina.

Holcomb oversaw the development of Thomas Davis and Luke Kuechly, who have made a combined seven Pro Bowls the past five seasons.

He will replace James Bettcher, who spent three seasons with the Cardinals and was a candidate for the head coaching job. Arizona ranked in the top seven in yards allowed the past three seasons.

The Cardinals will keep linebackers coach Larry Foote and could keep Kevin Garver as wide receivers coach, Byron Leftwich as quarterbacks coach and Steve Heiden as tight ends coach, Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports.

I don't think Haley ever gets another head coaching job. He has a bad rep in more than one way.

Cardinals expected to hire Mike McCoy as their offensive coordinator

Mike McCoy’s interview in Arizona apparently went well.

Shortly after Steve Wilks became the new head coach of the Cardinals, he interviewed McCoy to be his offensive coordinator. And now McCoy is expected to get that job, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

McCoy began the 2017 season as the Broncos’ offensive coordinator but didn’t make it through the season, getting fired as Denver’s offense sunk to near the bottom of the league. Prior to 2017, McCoy spent four years as head coach of the Chargers. He also had a previous stint as the Broncos’ offensive coordinator and was a longtime Panthers assistant before that.

The big question facing McCoy will be the identity of his starting quarterback. With Carson Palmer retiring, the Cardinals don’t know who will be leading McCoy’s offense. If they draft a quarterback, McCoy will have a big job getting that rookie ready to play.
