One thing I'll add though is that pure speed can add an element of dictating coverage. Sure, an elite guy might dictate coverage by getting bracketed but the speed of a player can affect CBs playing off more, the depth and shading of safeties, and perhaps dictate more about the coverage than a just "speedy enough" guy.

Still, think as far as Matt's saying, blazing speed isn't all it's cracked up to be.

If Bernard is there at 61, and we didn’t go WR at 13, I’d run to the podium for him. Maybe Fields as well. One of those two would be amazing gets at 61 (assuming 13 is not a WR).
I would like Fields in that situation.
I’m no longer convinced the Rams are grabbing a WR at #13. There’s so much talent in this draft that they can wait until #61 and take the best defender or blocker who falls to #13.

Drop rate over 10%. Low usage in the Oregon offense. Most of his yards were RAC.
This is the turn off for me.
Yeah, I’m spoiled with a guy like Nacua, who catches damn near anything he can reach, including a LOT of passes most would not.
Even Adam’s’ catch rate was almost embarrassing compared to Nacua’s.

What I have noticed over the years is great QBs throw passes they have no business completing because they are just giving their guy a chance to make a play. When they have a receiver who rewards that faith like Nacua and kupp, great things happen.

Top end speed and YAC ability are certainly appreciated, but I want a big WR with great hands. We have the QB who will sling it.

Not sure what we have in Mumfield so gotta figure that out this year. We know what we have in XSmith and Whitt. They are STeamers who can occasionally relieve starters. DAdams is a great red zone target and occasional chain mover. We are missing a true WR2 of the future. That should be a priority in FA this year.
I agreed with everything until the last sentence. Too much talent in the draft and too many good players on the Rams roster coming up on new deals for the Rams to be spending FA $$ on a WR. Every big contract they take on means another good player the Rams will have to let walk next year.
Just my opinion.

Yeah, I think they realize you cant have two real expensive WRs at the same time. Right now Adams is costly. Next year it will be Nacua, and their #2 next year is preferably a 2nd year WR drafted this year as Adams will likley be gone then.

Possibly the same at CB. McDuffie paired with a high quality rookie this year. Especially since they paid the safety position very well with Lake & Curl.

I have been pushing for a WR since Last Off-season because of the lack of a quality-starter behind Nacua and Adams, who I think are both likely to miss time due to injuries (Nacua's playing style and Adams' age) and the importance of WRs to Stafford and the Rams' passing game.

So WR is high on my list of "Needs"; and I like most of the prospects listed on this thread's Poll.

That being said, the Disappointment (believe "Bust" is over-used) Rate for 1st Round WRs is fairly high.

Excluding WRs selected with the top-9 picks, below are the 1st Round WRs drafted between 2018 and 2023:

2018 ... None before D.J. Moore (#24) and Calvin Ridley (#26)

2019 ... None before Marquise Brown (#25) and N'Keal Harry (#32)

2020 ... Henry Ruggs (#12), Jerry Jeudy (#15), Cee Dee Lamb (#17), Jalen Reagor (#21), Justin Jefferson (#22), and Brandon Aiyuk (#25)

2021 ... DeVonta Smith (#10), Kadarius Toney (#20) and Rashod Bateman (#27)

2022 ... Garrett Wilson (#10), Chris Olave (#11), Jameson Williams (#12), Jahan Dotson (#16), Treylon Burks (#18)

2023 ... Jaxon Smith-Njigba (#20), Quentin Johnson (#21), Zay Flowers (#22) and Jordan Addison (#23)

Just my opinions ... Bold are Very Good to Exceptional (8) ... Black (un-bolded) are Average to Good (8) ... and Bolded/Red (6) were Busts

Rumors have Diggs possibly playing for the good guys this season. Kind of a McVay type of receiver. 85 receptions on 102 targets. Big ticket money but Nacua is still on his rookie deal. I don't see us going rookie for the 3rd receiver option this season with the big dance at So Fi. Wouldn't surprise me.

Where is the source of this rumor from? Post it?

I stand corrected.
I should have stated - ‘the Rams need to address WR2 in the Draft’.
Better cheaper options there.

The Rams have Devante and Puka. A rookie is a much better option than Diggs, who has never been the good guy. You can’t fake a new personality through the ups and downs of a season

Only thing I can find is an article on yahoo from Athlon sports claiming the Rams sniffed around about AJ Brown and that Diggs "could" be a replacement. Even with the article saying "could" the title still is total clickbait not supported at all in the article. Basically it's total crap.

I don't get a blocker at #13. There is no fantastic swing tackle in the draft, which is what we ultimately need the most on the line. So anyone they draft that is OL at 13, would ride the bench in a year we are going all in. I'd be very disappointed. I do really like Mauigoa and Ioane but how much would they improve our team this year? Whereas a CB or WR would play a lot. A LB would play too, but there will likely not be one being worth picking at 13.

True. But if there were to be an injury causing a guy out for several games or more - I can’t think of a more problematic position (besides QB of course) than OT. We’ve seen this movie before at LOT. Even Puka or Verse can be survived for a few games. Missing LOT (or even ROT) can be a disaster on multiple levels.

So I understand this point of view. It’s not an immediate starter/contributor - but that doesn’t mean it’s not (potentially) very valuable. At 13 it’s probably unlikely due to who might be available. But 2nd or 3rd makes a lot of sense.

For the upcoming season at least. I'm thinking that a mid to lower ranked FA, or possibly the signing of a late cut type of OT will have to work for the backup tackle need ........ and it's a need for sure.
But I'd rather see that the 13th pick fills more of an everyday player / solid contributor type of player next season, whether its through a trade down scenario draft selection, or if we actually make our 13th selection there for an explosive, impact player.

Oh, I definitely have a swing OT high on my list of requirements for us before we go into the season, but, can't see it at 13. 13 has to give us a day 1 contributor at a hole in our team. 3rd round I'd be looking for a swing or in FA.

I agree but the fact that Dotson, Avila and McClendon are all free agents after this season is a little scary, as there are no decent replacements on the roster.

I look at the Lions' O-Line a few years ago ... it was Terrific ... vs. now ... UGH!
