I think the team wanted to free up the cap space. Which is fine, if you don't squander it. It feels like as of late the Rams have not been making the most out of the cap dollars they spend. Jonah Jackson. Allen Robinson. Colby Parkinson. Darius Williams has been meh. Same with Shelton. We used to be incredible at pro level scouting and spending, but it seems that has taken a step back lately, thankfully not sacrificing our ability to compete, because our drafting has been so good. And every team has some "misses". But there is no real use trading an aging and declining, and therefore overpaid, but still quite useful CB, when CB is a big team need, if you are just going to throw the money away anyway. We particularly could use a lengthier CBs, and one that can tackle. Our CB room is small and often whiffs. The secondary is generally young and could use some vet leadership and swagger too... in short, it could use a Jalen Ramsey.
Don't get me wrong, I am hardly crying about Ramsey being gone. I think we got his best years and moved on at the right time. He was getting burned way too often in his last year as a Ram. But when you see several contracts we have handed out since and at the same time look at what our team needs are..... eh... it would have been better to keep Ramsey and find the savings elsewhere. You cannot tell me he would not be CB1 on this roster right now. Maybe CB2 once Spoon comes back, but even then I don't think so.
