he gets his money and goes where he is wanted, i dont see the problem
train

If he hadn't renegotiated, he would have gotten the $5 million - and $1 million of that sooner - and then been free to negotiate with 31 other teams, getting to choose the best fit for him, and get additional money. Instead, he chose a chance to prove to the Rams that he could help them - but the team didn't actually give him that chance.

I don't like Tavon - but unless the Rams warned him before the restructure that they might still trade him, I don't think this is a classy move. He didn't have to be restructured, was already guaranteed $5 million, and then signed a deal to benefit the Rams instead of being a free agent. If a player does the team a favor, you don't screw him in return.

I hope the wenotme thing doesn't ring hollow to players this year. I think we got a lot of mileage out of it last year....

Tavons restructure was all about making him more tradesble.

And what is all of this skill set and talent talk. Tavon is terrible. He is small, weak, and has been given plenty of time to prove himself. He failed. Let go of the dream people.

Good trade for TA. He should get more playing time in Dallas.
Especially if Zeke continues to be a dumbass

Watch Tavon go to the Pro Bowl with Dallas. I wouldn't be surprised. He's certainly going to get plenty of opportunities!

Doesn’t surprise me I called it at the start of the season ... I think they would have shipped him at the start of the year if not for the wrist injury ...

Lucky travels tayvon

March 15, 2018 Austin signed a re-worked contract. The deal is a 1 year contract worth $7 million in base value, and up to $8 million total. Austin received $5m in virtual guarantees through roster bonus and guaranteed salary. Austin can earn up to $2m in per game roster bonuses.

This trade would have bothered me more if TA hadn't lost his nerve catching punts with the fumbling. Luckily Cooper stepped up big time....

Cowboys will use Tavon Austin in Lance Dunbar’s former role

The Cowboys didn’t trade for Tavon Austin the receiver. They traded for Tavon Austin the web back.

The Cowboys plan to use Austin the way they used Lance Dunbar.

Dunbar had 94 rushes for 422 yards and a touchdown and caught 68 passes for 646 yards in 54 games with the Cowboys when he wasn’t injured.

“We’re talking about a web back here that is supersized in terms of how explosive he can be,” Stephen Jones said. “We intend to use him just as we’ve used Dunbar in the past. We feel like with Zeke [Ezekiel Elliott] and Rod [Smith] that they fill their roles, and that Tavon can really do some special things for us in addition as well as being a nice threat in the return game.”

The Rams called the Cowboys on Thursday about a possible third-day trade for Austin. The Cowboys did their homework and came to the conclusion that Austin could add “juice” to their offense.

Dallas hopes to get Austin around 12 touches a game, Jones said.

“Obviously, he’s a really talented guy,’ Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. “He was the eighth player taken in the draft in 2013. Dynamic college football player. One of the issues for him has been his size and how you use him in the NFL. We probably see him as a guy who can be versatile for us. Stephen reference a web back, kind of a dynamic mismatch, running back out of the backfield.

Obviously, he played slot. He’s a returner. And so what you try to do is you try to get the ball in his hands a number of different ways. When we played the Rams this year, they lined him up as a running back. They tried to hand it to him, to throw it to him throughout the year, and that’s what people have tried to do throughout his career. He’s certainly a dynamic guy, and we just felt like for the value he could come into our football team and help us, and add some explosiveness to our offense.”

Good luck to Tavon, but have seen enough. Ready to move on, and very happy the Rams have moved him.

Several observations about the Tavon trade...

S&M couldn’t have been more classy while explaining it in the presser.

It was a win-win for both Rams and Tavon. He gets a shot at playing time with Dallas, Rams save a much needed roster spot for an extra incoming rookie for development.

Tavon did NOT get abused by the Rams. Hell, he was practically stealing money via his previous contract.

Our long team nightmare is over. Okay, a little dramatic. But it will be nice not to devote future posts to this failed project, right? Lol.

Tavon is a good dude, electric ball carrier and far better than some here like to pretend.

He was never a WR. Ok. He was over drafted. He never looked good in a Fisher offense (no way! Lol) but quit pretending he is "terrible".

He was/is one of the most capable returners in the league.
Terrible players dont accumulate 10 TDs in a season. Terrible doesnt approach his career rushing numbers.

Glad we got a pick for him, glad he will get used in Dallas.

No Rams player I can remember has been hated more and deserved it less than Tavon Austin.

.

disappointed in this move actually. make a guy take a pay cut then ship his arse out to the highest bidder. pretty classless move.

and people wonder why bradford refused to take a pay cut. never understood why people hated him for not budging. there's your answer right here. and they still traded bradford that year.

tavon needs a new agent.
