So I was thinking. I know Stu.... don't do that. Anyway...… Anyone think there's a chance that if we get the lead, McVay decides not to embarrass Gruden out of respect for his elder and the man that gave him his first coaching job?

I'm not saying he will go so far as to coach to lose but maybe just enough to win without blowing out? I am predicting a blow out in this game. I know I shouldn't because my brain always tells me not to assume. But I can't help it here. So if we get up big, anyone else think we won't go total shecock game on their asses?
It's sufficient for me if the shoe isn't on the other foot of getting schooled like last year with Jay Gruden.

I think McVay has already shown respect for teams, so I wouldn’t expect anything different. Just his style.

*So I'm up 42-0 in the first half...Should I be nice because the old man hired me once? Yes, I should..I should honor him by using his scheme, over, and over, and over...I'll impress the shyte out of him by scoring a 100 ~McGenius

I think McVay won't take any chance at losing this game. He never wants to lose, but especially this one.

Maybe even Mannion will get into the game eventually.

Sounds like a conflict of interest there ..:shocking:

Let's hope the Rams get a big lead first.

McVay won't show up Gruden and the Raiders up should they get a big lead. He'll take players out when it is safe to do so. Starters can use the rest and Mannion the practice.

Although rare, I have seen too many times a team ahead by 21 or so going into the fourth quarter only to find themselves on their heels and losing the game.

If we are ahead 32-0 going into the fourth quarter I think it should be more preservation than respect for the other coach.

Its "We not Me"

Right?

You keep playing like you have been doing, running mostly the plays that have worked for you so far, while not adding any new plays that you had planned to run, so that you still have those tucked away for future opponents. Otherwise it's pedal to the metal. So in other words, I agree with @Akrasian.

ou absolutely don't tell the players, "hey guys, slow it down some. I don't want to hurt Jon's feelings."

Well, not thinking anything that extreme... not that I think those words would ever come out of McVay's mouth.

But, there are other ways to slow things down.. like a more conservative play calling scheme. Maybe bring in Fisher to handles those duties.

I think that is a distinct possiblity.

I think McVay paid too much respect to certain teams / coaches last year (especially the Redskins & Seahawks) his attitude and coaching changed for the second Seahawks game... I don't think he makes the same mistake this year - play to win and win big.

Saw the thread title. Hoped for Mormons.
Oh well.

If the game is out of hand, the starters will sit - as they should whenever the game gets out of hand. Until it is out of hand, its foot on the gas. You never know what is going to happen in this league.

McVay let up in the shecock game, it could have easily been 60-0 before sheattle scored in garbage time. I could see McVay calling a lot of runs with back up RBs in 2nd half leading to FGs not TDs. But only if the game is out of hand, and looking like an embarassing game for Gruden.

Since when are NFL head coaches paid to be nice???

If Gruden doesnt want us to run up the score, then he can stop us. I see many of our starters resting after halftime.
