I don't think it qualifies as a hold by today's standard, where holding has to be beyond blatant to get a call.

I love these breakdowns, and I love seeing big gains through the air from a Rams QB too - I love watching this team!

Yep, Havenstein back-dooring Clowney is gonna give me nightmares!

with regards to the move, I'm not 100% sure what the law is but it doesn't look like he physically 'held' him to me, looks like he puts his arm round him and spins him, just gives Goff a second.

EDIT: I just have to point out though that Clowney was a beast, and was basically stifling anything the Rams were doing in the first half, what an athlete!

But it was only for the first half. Why

He grabbed him around the waist, slowed him down, and used it to put himself between Clowney and the QB. It's definitely a hold, just not a blatant one.

Watch the ref and you'll see he wasn't looking at the edge, he was looking in another direction at that moment. It was quick and brief so it didn't get caught.

It's more proof that they need two guys back there watching things not one.

You "backdoored" him? Be careful with your phrasing big guy...

It's a common term, they run the back door in basketball all the time and in this case not only did he back door Clowney, but the play screwed the Texans.

I disagree Les because games right now are over officiated and IMO, that's a no call, it was that quick...As we keep in mind Les we don't always want more .

That was really cool, sounds like they had Goff wired this week, hope we can see more of that footage. Honestly I'd love to see 30+ minute shows of various points of the game with them wired up.
The turning point show, which has been posted in here has some of it....and the Showtime show, called Inside the NFL has a bunch of the mic on Goff

I also like how they explain the blocking technique used by Hav, he seemed to be unsure if the refs would call it, is that because it's technically a hold or because it looks like it could be one?

There were wired and soundfx vids of Goff mic'd up this week. Get the Rams app and check out the video section. It's also good for catching when NFL Network and other shows talk about the Rams.

Yeah I saw that, but there's gotta be enough footage to fill a 30 minute show easily. I think that would be a fun show to watch.

As another poster pointed out, this is the exact hold technique that the Seahawks and Richard Sherman have been using for years and never get flagged for.

It’s a holding technique that has been going on for years and almost never called. The good teams are coached up to use the technique. Every team uses it at the goaline to hold receivers.

If you do it quickly and let go you are fine. It’s the sustained hooks that will
Get you flagged. Havenstein played right within the unwritten rule and tetered on sustained hook. You could call him lucky or genius, or another word you could call it is savvy.
