With the ballooning salary cap there is no reason not to pay one of, if not thee, best player on your team $10 mil a year. Will his body last only 2-3 more years? So what... make the contract to be front heavy and cut him after a couple years if you must. But no reason not to pay him.

Gurley will need a new contract in a year or two and if he does the same thing next year that he did this season than he'd be worth every penny. Front load the first two years as far as salary cap goes and keep your best player. Seems like a no brainer to me.

There are many reasons not to pay him Psycho...

1. Short shelf life position with sudden dropoff you cannot predict.
2. Metric $hit-ton of RBs in every draft.
3. RB is an instant impact position at the NFL level.
4. Passing game usage is common at the collegiate level, allowing for evaluation of hands as well as running ability.
5. Because this is a business, smart teams will spend their money on difficult-to-find commodities.

Everyone says don't pay him more then Likley because bells contract sets a potential precedence for Gurleys contract

Positions you pay:

1. QB. Touches the ball every down, difficult to find guys who can give you consistent high end play.
2. LT. Protects the blindside, hard to find dudes with the feet to play here.
3. 3T/Interior rush. Great ones are harder to find than edge rushers, and instant pressure inside is deadly to QBs.
4. Blindside rush. Quick pressure from blindside is hard to find, and enormously beneficial to a defense.
5. CB. Guy who can remove opposing team's weapon is huge. Shutdown #1 corners hard to find, you pay them.

Everyone else takes a back seat, IMO. Supply and demand meets on-field impact. If you can pay the others do it, but the positions above have to take precedence.

Not only did Bell arrive much later than that for the playoff game against Jacksonville (as well as one coach), he missed practically the entire Saturday walk-through the day before, showing up about five minutes before practice ended.

I can understand taking a stand and missing preseason to get leverage in negociations. I don't like it but I get it.
Showing bad work ethics in the divisional round because you don't like your contract situation, that I don't understand, and it shows he is not focused on the right things. Huge red flag for me

Damn, sounds like his team is pretty much done with him. That's an awkward locker room if/when he comes back.

Hes a great running back but they will not pay him more than Gurley. Bell is older and has alot more touches.

Some team will pay him what he wants but I dont think it's going to be the Steelers. Who would take that chance?

The Steelers should pay him Gurley money. If they don't at least offer Gurely money then the Steelers are stupid.

If he won't sign for that then he's stupid.

Big Ben should STFU. He got paid.

Dang.....that would not be good from the Rams' perspective. Heck, L. Bell is also excellent as a receiver and would give Jimmy G. another weapon. Nope, let's hope he stays in Pitt or at the least in the AFC.

Interesting to notice the difference between this and AD99's holdout. Even last year, when he carried it right to the eve of the season, Rams players had his back, all the way.

He didn't hold out into the season and sit out regular season games.

Do these reasons pertain to Gurley as well? Just wondering.

I am of two minds on that. Him going to the 49ers that is.

On the one hand he is a phenomenal talent and could be a major boost to their team.

On the other hand he has so many red flags he could be one of the players that tank once they get the big contract.

I don't want to take the chance that Bell is the first one in your scenario. He could probably be what Todd Gurley is for us. A multi-pronged weapon that is always a threat to the defense.
No thanks, stay in Pitt or the AFC for all I care.......
