Been wanting them to get Wade a big, physical presence inside to anchor this DL. Finally. This guy can anchor in and give us what we haven't gotten on the nose since we changed to the 3-4. We needed size and physicality desperately nice job finally addressing it.
Seems pretty likely that Gaines or Joseph-Day will be our NT for 1st and 2nd down. Will keep Brockers at DE.
Then on 3rd down they can kick either Brock or JFM inside and have our OLBs as DE

Greg Gaines, though no one will love his arm length, got the job done at Washington as a top-end defensive interior for the Huskies. He was one of the best run defenders in college football but flashed some pass-rushing chops at the Senior Bowl, where he had the third-best win rate among interior players in the 1-on-1s.
If he's already an above average run stopper and has upside to develop as a pass rusher, this could turn out to be a huge steal in the 4th. His senior bowl performance is definitely encouraging. Props to our personnel staff on this one.

Snead said that Gaines was THE priority on Day 3. Period.

This makes me so happy. It's common sense - we now have pass rushers everywhere - on 3rd downs, put Rapp at ILB. Fowler and Matthews at DE, JFM and Donald at DT.
We don't need Gaines to rush the passer anyways - let's stop the run and let this defense go nuts on 3rd and longs

Not quite understanding all the positive vibes about Sebastian Joseph Day on this board. Many seem to think he will contend for a starting role at NT.
I’m all for Rams optimism, but... did anyone actually see SJD play last year? I tried to look up stats for him, and I’m not sure he played a single down in 2018.
Yeah, Gaines looks awesome, and a player they really wanted. I’m hoping he shows something. But as for SJD... well, as of now he hasn’t shown much of anything yet. JFM definitely had some splash plays, and even Smart got in a bit. But I don’t recall seeing SJD at all. Would love to see him explode out of nowhere of course, but I’ve seen zero evidence so far.

I think the coaching staff see SJD as a project that has potential. The chance of him being our starter in the middle in week 1 are slim. I have heard that he's put in work in the gym and if can improve his technique he has a chance to get snaps at NT. If that indeed happens we will have a very good rotation because we can keep Brockers at end.
