I'm not entirely sure we can say no to anything at this point depending upon what McVay decides to do. Once again not advocating for signing him but unfortunately discussing kickers because of our special teams struggles. However I do understand the argument of no. Pros are that he has a strong leg and has shown past success......the cons, older and his last year wasn't so great for whatever reason.

Looks like they will bring in some kicker options to try out this week. Could see a new kicker on Sunday.

Hmmmmm.....

I think the Rams should focus on playing 4-quarters of football like they have the last two games.

And what happens if the Rams don't find a low-budget kicker to replace Karty this Sunday, now you have a kicker (Karty) that will have even more of a confidence problem. For crying out loud we just beat the shit out of two teams (albeit crappy teams). I think focusing on a new kicker is counter productive.

Things to correct from our first meeting with the 9ers:

1. Number one focus = Make sure the defense is ready to play and not wait until the 2nd half to start playing.
2. Running backs hold on to the fucking ball.
3. Use the TE's.
4. Quit worrying about Karty, we all know he sucks, so just score TD's or just punt and pin the 9ers deep and make the field long for them.

Can't just be dismissive about our kicking game. Guess what played a role in costing us the last game against the Whiners? The kicking game! It's nice to score TDs every single time but that's not realistic. This team also needs to be able to put points on the board any way possible. Ignoring an obvious problem is not the solution.

No

The fumble on the 1 yard line, and the other fumble on the 9-ers 20 yard line cost us at least 10-14 points. If those two things didn't happen Stafford could have been our kicker that night and we would have won that game handedly.

As far as the blocking in the last game, sometimes you chip the guy coming off the edge sometimes you don't because they'll overload a side. He shouldn't be able to get there if the holder and kicker are doing their thing the right way. Karty has been too low sometimes, too slow sometimes, too inaccurate sometimes.
If you need a 55 yarder at the end of regulation can Karty deliver? I would have no confidence that kick would be good. Hopefully we'll have a new kicker Sunday.

Those are other things that also contributed but to act like the kicking game didn't adversely affect the game is laughable at best.

Place your wagers everyone

I say Karty is the kicker for the rest of the season is the most likely

If I had to take a stab at another leg - I’d guess Younghoe Koo - who has certainly had his share of choking as well in the league. Picking off the trash pile though I’m not sure what we can expect.

I think its a combination of factors which has lead to Karty making mental mistakes.
He can definitely be the kicker the Rams need, there's seemingly a lot of issues with the snap, hold and blocking. To my eye, Karty is like a golfer teeing off to a narrow fairway where he just trying to guide it vs just hitting the damn thing with impunity

I think our bed is made with Karty. The blocking scheme will get overhauled I’m sure. It has to right now!

Bringing a new kicker won't do any good if they don't correct the blocking problems. No way a guy should have come that close to blocking it. I have no idea how he didn't.

I’m going to guess McVay gets heavily involved in that aspect. The offense is clicking, the defense (aside from that stupid prevent we all hate) is playing pretty damn well. He very much seems embarrassed by the kicking game. And I don’t think he accepts embarrassment well - as he shouldn’t. I also suspect he sees what is wrong more than any of us.

That said, it sure seems to me that the blocking and timing is all off. I would put that to coaching and game prep. Kickers are weird beasts. But Karty has rarely had a clean path to kick through - even on XPs. How can that not get in his head? If his timing is off, it can lead to shanks and pushes. It was pretty obvious the missed FG was mostly attributable to the abomination of a blocking scheme we saw. Humphries had a decision to either block the interior or edge rush. He couldn’t do both (he actually chose the right one) so we had a free runner and a sure block if Karty doesn’t adjust during the kick. In that case, a blocked FG attempt is potentially FAR more damaging than a missed FG.

Anyway, I would love to be a fly on the wall in meetings and practice this week. There is probably going to be a special level of intensity with the ST units and I would bet McVay will be in the middle of it.
