I agree: recklessness wouldn't be wise. I would add, though, that some of the players you're referring to us extending are merely average to good. I'd out Young and Avila in that category.
If you get rid of Avila then u have 2 holes to fill. Avila’s and Shelton’s because IMO Avila and Dotson covered for Shelton’s average play.

Jamel Dean would be nice, assuming he hits the market. QBs don't complete passes to his target. Also he's 6'1" and over 200.

Nashon Wright would be a nice fallback. Or maybe both. He's got good height and helps that room not be desperate come the draft.

Whatever we do in FA gotta say I still want a CB1 type in the draft. Can't have enough of them dammit.

I agree that they're good, quality starters. But that doesn't negate that we could choose to let them go in favor of outside quality starters.
I think there's a little more to it there with Avila at least. Imo Avila is a foundational player along with Dotson that came in and gave this offense an identity.

Underestimating his value is like when we underestimated Rodger Saffold's value to the 2017-2018 teams. You let those kind of players walk and they're harder to replace than you think.

Young... can probably be replaced but he's a good player to keep around and forms a nice duo as the foil to Verse with their contrasting playing styles. I will admit he didn't complete that final step as the edge who generates his own pressures regularly that he seemed to have taken early in the year.

Yeah...both Avila and Dotson are free agents after next season. I'm guessing they'll have to let one of them go, which is why I anticipate they may be looking for IOL in this upcoming draft.

It would be great to fill either the CB or WR need with an FA

Both positions come at a pretty significant draft risk in terms of how long it takes to be game ready.

There is also risk of missing on the pick altogether.
I think it is fair to say that CB is our greatest need so it may be that signing an FA, CB is the best move guaranteeing as best as you can an immediate upgrade

I think we're mostly playing soft zone coverages; hence the bend not break.
The coverage is dictated by the personnel. If you don’t trust your corners you play soft zone. Improve the personnel and you can play any scheme. Rams have too many players in their backend that simply can’t run. Forbes can run but can’t cover or tackle. The rest for the most part are slow by NFL standards.

They need to address IOL regardless. Dedich does his best but he’s simply not big enough to play inside. Avila has had some injury issues as has Dotson. As long as Stafford’s playing QB you have to have bigger IOL to protect him in the pocket.

I’d say we should take 2-3 corners in the draft and sign 1-2 more in FA.

I trust McVay and Snead to make the correct decisions on who to bring in.
I agree that they need to bring in more CB and Safeties through the draft, free agency and UDFA’s. Rams seem to keep the same guy’s around on the roster and the practice squad. I’d argue that they need a huge infusion of new blood in the secondary and some new assistant coaches as well. This entire group has regressed the past two seasons.

Forbes played very well against Carolina. If we draft or acquire a CB1, we could have one of the better tandems going into 2026-27

The biggest need outside of that is a Nickel Back who can match up against the better slot WRs in the NFC and play the run. Lake is great, but we could do with someone a little quicker, such as D'Angelo Ponds
Not sure about Forbes. He flashed at times but has looked lost as well. He’s just too light and gets pushed around. When he does tackle someone he gets hurt. I’m starting to see why the Commodes moved on from him after drafting him in the first round. Thought it might be because he doesn’t fit their scheme but it’s looking like he’s more suited for flag football than the NFL. I might keep him but only for a reserve. I think he’s physically too limited to be a starter and it’s looking like he’s not physical enough for special teams.

do you think we'll look at FA CBs? Didn't last year and it was obvious CB was our biggest need. If we spend our cash on CBs, we use up cash we could use on offense.
But can a great offense overcome a weak defensive secondary. I’d suggest from this year’s results HELL NO!

Yeah but he could room with Kendrick; and, they can be the new version of Kenny Britt and Brian Quick.
The fact that Kendrick still is a Ram speaks volumes about the lack of talent at CB that they have on this roster. He’s definitely not a WE NOT ME PLAYER.I simply don’t understand why they have him. I’m guessing DESPERATION. The first move they should make is to release DK. ADDITION BY SUBTRACTION.

Spotrac has $58M ... OTC has $46M ... but, they both agree that's with just 40 players currently under contract.

So, whichever site is correct, you need to deduct another $9-$10M to get to the 51 player minimum.
Then there's the $ set aside to cover the Draft Class, which would be higher with two first round picks.

On the plus side ... I can be optimistic! ... cutting Darious Williams would create $7.5M of 2026 cap space; and extending Parkinson (entering the final year of his contract, and carries a $9M cap) should reduce his cap-hit.
Plus the Rams have a ton of money for 2027 and 2028. Contracts can be backloaded to fit especially if you’re signing younger players. Rams are in excellent shape cap wise.

Been waiting for the Elephant in the room

Quality QB, WR, & RB's, Good DL and Defense in general, what appears to be a very good staff. It could be a problem
They have one quality WR. Their running back situation is muddled because Walker is a FA and Charbonnet is rehabbing an ACL tear he suffered in the playoffs. In my opinion the jury is still out as to the quality of their QB. They have a great mix of defenders but a few are coming up for new contracts this season and in the coming seasons so they will be getting paid eventually.

Definitely an elephant in everyone’s room. They better get their rings this year because we all know what it’s like outside of Kansas City when you’re the Super Bowl winner or loser. You lose coaches, depth and you’re the hunted instead of the hunter’s.

Here's the problem: we thought it had overhaul written on it last year and they didn't even draft any. I'm not confident they're gonna be real radical on this.

I will say, after today's game, I'd be willing to pay big bucks for the best CB on the market, which I believe is Jaylen Watson. Do that and draft another by the 2nd round and there's your overhaul.
I would add the Rams will almost certainly have to bring back Durant. He will start for another team if he walks. He’s not terrible, just hasn’t played consistently enough to allay our concerns. He has made several big plays and had some very good games.

There’s a lot of posts suggesting McCreary should be brought back. As long as the $$ is not too extravagant, I’d be fine with that; but he hasn’t exactly made me breathe a sigh of relief since he’s been here. Too small of a sample and nothing I can recall that made me think the Rams found an answer/upgrade. Forbes has had a good game here and there, but like Durant, he hasn’t been consistent enough to convince me he’s a legit difference maker.

There are several “names” in the first two rounds to pick from and the Rams have 3 picks to use. There is absolutely no excuse for not using one of them on a CB.

Before the Seahawks game, I want to double down on the need for one or more taller, top-tier options at CB. The safeties are fine (may need to sign Curl for '26), and Lake is signed long-term at nickel.

But these CBs have to be replaced! One FA and one 1st round draft pick. Jaylen Watson will likely be too expensive, but get Riq Woolen and kill two birds with one stone. If, as some report, they don't take McCoy or Delane with #13 pick, maybe Brandon Cisse from SC is still around for the Rams' 2nd 1st round pick. Maybe Davison Igbinosun (big and fast) is still there in round 2.

Note: Forbes will be cheap ($2.8M) -- but for a reason. Durant is FA who will ask for a lot, and Darius Williams has a no-guarantee for 2026, so I wouldn't resign either.

Where else do they have such a glaring need? O-line is signed for 2026, except they need to extend McClendon, Avila and Dotson past 2026!
I would re-sign Durant over McCreary and draft Cisse.
With Lake extended, a slot CB like McCreary (at his projected price) doesn’t seem as prudent as bringing back Durant who can play outside.

A trade/FA, high draft pick with CB1 potential (like Cisse), and Durant is a realistic route, IMO.

I would:
1) Re-sign McCreary and make him the slot CB,
2) Move Lake back into Curl's safety spot,
3) Sign a veteran FA like Chidobe Awuzie like they tried to do last year
4) And select 2 to 3 rookies CBs that aren't a liability as tacklers.

I wonder if they draft a CB high, and assuming they re-sign McCreary or Durant or add an external FA, would Forbes have any kind of trade value for even a 5th or 6th rd pick on draft day? I just think he is what he is at this point. Not sure he will get any better. If they grab 2 CBs, I would rather move on from him.

Dwill and Spoon are toast. I like Durant and Forbes as depth but keep Durant if they only keep one.
