just an injury away

So we trade for another teams starter to backup Stafford in case of injury? There’s really too much thought by you two put into what is quite clearly a joke on my part

Well I'm going to throw a name out that may upset the apple cart.
I would not be surprised if Pittsburgh turns Mitch Trubisky into a viable winning QB.
For first time in his career he is going to have some help around him and he just may prosper.
Stranger things have happened.

David Carr didn’t change teams but the team around him is changing. I’ve always liked Carr but felt like coaching/receivers were lacking. This year is his chance to shine with an offensive minded head coach and offensive weapons (Adams, Waller, Jacobs, Renfrow) to succeed.
Correction - Dereck Carr.

Do the Rams win in 2021 with
Ryan
Carr
Wentz
Tannehill
Cousins
?

Win what? More than half? Division? A playoff game? Super Bowl?

Rams could win with all them dudes. Except maybe Carson Wentz since he's too TO prone.

He was a double doink away from a playoff dub. And the Bears aren't exactly a model org

As to the reason you can’t think of another is simple. There isn’t one out there. A few years ago you could have had a few more like Wentz, Ryan, Tannehill (all three have moved on with Tannehill having success and the verdict is out on Ryan’s move).

IMO the Rams struck while the iron was hot. Grateful they did as I have enjoyed this Super Bowl win as much as the first.

This.

The fact is that Stafford is (and already was) an elite QB who was just stuck on a shit team for all of these years. The fact that just one year on a team with talent and a good HC allowed Stafford to take a 0-fer playoff record and push that percentage above .500 and, more importantly, win a Super Bowl, is a testament to that.

Honestly, I don't think most of the NFL or its fans (myself certainly included) knew exactly how good Stafford was before this year. I also think the contrast between his time with the Lions and his one year with the Rams is a great illustration of the limitation on how much a QB can elevate the players around him. At the end of the day, no matter how much talent your QB has, if he doesn't have a decent team around him, that team will not be able to excel.

It must suck for Lions fans now to realize they had 12 years to get things right around Stafford and didn't, and once he went to a team that did have things right around him, he got a ring.

Categorizing Stafford as mid level is laughable and I couldn't care less how many pro bowl popularity contests he's won.

There's a reason why teams were willing to give up multiple firsts to get him despite his age and a guy like Matt Ryan only gets a third round pick.

I had Tannehill as comparable in terms of opportunity. That said, I see Tannehill similar to Goff. In the right circumstances, they can excel, but they can't carry a team.
There's a reason for that. Few of them can carry a bad team. In fact Stafford may be the only one in recent history. He helped get Detroit to 3 postseasons. Brady never played on a bad team like that. Neither did Peyton. Or Rodgers. Eli did and he didn't carry them. IMHO, Stafford may always be undervalued by most fans and media. He got to a good team and that's why HE won a Superbowl.

I agree. Goff has touch and when protected awareness. If the Lions protect him and give him legit WRs, he’ll be ok.

The Goff / Tannehill comparison is a good one. Goff could still level up, maybe. But good comparison.

Stafford will soon be the picture child from importance of QB being in the right situation to succeed.

Right now, a number of QBs similar to Stafford, including Carr (McDanields as HC) and Cousins (KoD as HC) are 2. Will they now get over the hump?

IMO, there are no others like Stafford out there.

Am I alone in this? Or can another mid level QB become top tier with a change in scenery ( including new coaching).
Mid-level. I never thought of Stafford as mid-level.

Not a chance. I wouldnt consider any of them an upgrade to Goff much less be comparable to Stafford
Ryan has played on some damn good teams, double digit wins 6 of first 10 seasons with many top 10 defenses and yet he only got past 1st round 3 out of 6 years
Tannehill & Cousins have been abysmal in the playoffs, Wentz is garbage
Carr is hard to say, hasnt really had the chance to show anything in playoffs. Sadly he missed the playoffs in 2016 when the Raiders had the best team he's played on. Last year he just couldnt get them over the hump against the Bengals, had several chances but settled for FG instead of TD.
