They called illegal man down field during a Rams punt that the Baltimore player fumbled. When they showed the replay and explained the penalty, it was clear he left way too early. So he was definitely guilty, but not sure if that penalty is ever called.
Apparently, he wasnt allowed to head up field until the ball had been kicked.
To make matters worse, on the re-kick Baltimore almost took it to the house and had a 30-40 yard return
That is rarely called but routinely violated.
The lineman have to be within a yard of the LOS when the ball is kicked....just like OL on a screen pass. But, guys leave early constantly.
It was the right call, but, rarely called flag when there is a fumble is maddening.

The only reason they flagged it was because of the fumble. And how ironic that Dolac would make the mistake that cost Reeder a tackle and a forced fumble. But Reeder returned the favor by not tackling Flowers, allowing Flowers to get in the path of LANDMAN for the forced fumble.

Once its dead its dead....
I went to a college game once, similar sort of play on a QB sneak. Ball clearly popped out, in this case like bouncing on the ground, a couple of refs didn't see it. A defender picked the ball up and started returning the ball. From their 25 or so yard like to about midfield.
So, on the side of the field where the defender picked up the fumble and was returning it the refs was running down field watching the play.
On the other side, the ref was still focused on the QB sneak, not seeing the fumble. He blew the play dead as the action at the line had stopped.
The awarded the ball to the defensive but spotted the ball about where he was in his return when the whistle blew. The 48 yard line or so. It was a sure TD.
So it goes I guess....

On the flip side, there was that 2014 game where we beat the Niners when Kaepernick tried a sneak to win the game....ball squirted out, we recovered and beat them because of it. No way to tell if he was down, scored or fumbled first - so the play stood

That was Dolac and his blocking took him about 5 yards then he just took off. He was about 10 yards down field when the ball was kicked.
Our ST are really fucking things up. First couple of games looked good, then the Eagles and everything seems to be getting worse. There is a penalty on every return almost. I hope they don't cost us the London game. Then maybe they can hyper focus in the bye week and fix it.
Really wish the Rams would make a change during the bye replacing Chase Blackburn. Rams special teams really improved last year when they brought in Craig Aukerman after Scott Frost left for his collegiate gig.

Aukerman was responsible for Whittington returning kickoff and help improve the unit overall. Unfortunately he was hired by the Dolphins.

Didn't the same thing happen in the whiners game? Quick whistle cost the Rams their first lead of the game by blowing the ball dead, even though they are supposedly told to let plays go on because they can be fixed by replay? The kickoff fumble that the Rams returned for a TD.
Yup the refs have gone out of their way to fuck us way more recently. Fuck them

.

I'm confused. Can a play called dead be challenged by a team? That's the 2nd time the Rams have been screwed by this in the last 3 games.

That can be the only reason Mcvay isn't throwing the red flag.

.
Rams could not challenge because all challenges in the last two minutes of the half or game had to come from the booth. I believe Rams were out of timeouts as well
