What is the worst case with Davis? The team has stumbled (despite the teams efforts to cut him loose and many fans....one named me....doubting his ability to play in the NFL) upon a good, young QB option. Even if by the end of the year he has not clearly established himself as the guy he gives a long term legitimate 2nd QB for the team.

I was one of the few who thought his play was possible. I'm not ready to call him our future QB but I do believe he has all the tools necessary to be one. I'm a huge Bradford fan and I want to see them both compete for the starter spot next year. Depending on what we do in the draft I rather have Davis Bradford and Keenum. Because honestly we have bigger needs for the draft mainly Guard center safety lb. I believe with our running backs and wide receivers we have now we can be competitive and win games just need to get that Oline straight and a couple pieces on defense

I think he's going to play very well against the Niners.

As good as their secondary has been thus far this season (impressive 57% completion percentage against), the Rams have a group of pass catchers who are going to get mismatches on just about every down. So purely from the perspective of WRs and TEs of the Rams against SF secondary I expect them to double Quick and try to eliminate him but it's not gonna work as Davis gets through his reads and has shown a proficiency for spreading the ball around very well.

What that means is that it comes down to pressure in this game, particularly on third downs which is where Davis leads the league in QB rating. Looking at the Niners' sack totals they aren't much better than us tbh, with only 5. They do get some good pressure, but their strength is their disciplined zone play in the secondary, their quality LBs being able to rush or drop very well on passing downs, and ability to get off the field.

Personally I believe that Quick, Britt, Cook, Kendricks, and Bailey are more than enough to allow this kid to keep the chains moving. Get ready for another big game from the kid, IMO.

I pulled for Austin Davis to start last year over Kellen Clemens.. The kid is a gamer.. Been watching him play for quite a while.. There are some attributes in a QB that aren't judged by the NFL combines like leadership, knowledge of the game, and competitiveness.. Austin may always be out-practiced.. Put him in a game.

Davis is exciting, but it seems many are forgetting that Bradford looked far and away the best QB on the team before he went down.
This is easily the most talent Bradford would have ever played with.

Worse case? AD explodes and then leaves to be a starter.

I keep forgetting to say "nice to see you" since you also post at the Herd.

I agree about the mismatches and this is a game that, if I were OC, I would have several plays ready for Austin. Especially the reverse where he stops and cuts it back. The 49ers swarm to the ball and that play can use their speed and aggressive style against them.

Right now Davis is playing better than I have ever seen Bradford play and it's not all that close. There is LOTS of football to go but as it stands right now Davis is kicking ass unlike any Rams QB we have seen in many, many years.

I think everyone and there brother knows Bradford has ten zillion times the arm talent that Davis has. But he never seem to put it to use. That throw to Pettis vs Tampa, The touchdown to Britt vs the Eagles, none of those would have even crossed Bradford's mind. I just feel like he doesn't take the chances necessary to win games.

All this talk about Sam, at the moment he has zero ability, he had zero ability for the back 9 of last year and zero ability for some games in his second year. Davis is an infinetly better QB simply by virtue of being on the field.

Danario Alexander had a lot of talent too. Unfortunately some guys can't stay healthy. If AD consistently puts up the numbers he's been having--and starts winning--I don't see how we don't have Davis as our long term QB. Draft a talented guy in the 2nd or 3rd and trade Bradford. Trust me I was one of the guys who wanted to draft Bradford and genuinely wanted him to be the guy but at this point we have to move on--at the least have legitimate insurance.
