Pretty slow around here. Let's watch some Rams running game breakdowns from early last season.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2w-SULm2B8&nohtml5=False
Enjoy again or for the first time.

 "See. I told you that @Mojo Ram wasnt such a bad guy."
:shades:"I still don't trust him. Keep him away from my girl. ....And my beer. ...Ok, so he can have the girl."

Edit: Some observations on the video, and general:
  • We have a couple special weapons in Gurley and Austin. They both are quick and have that special trait- vision.
  • Newsflash: Cooked was a horrid TE. We lost games because of him. His place will be taken by a fairly reliable Kendricks, and an exciting new rookie TE.
  • The Rams WILL have better QB play and better WR play in '16. A new big target on the outside.
  • As discussed in an earlier post, our 3rd down conversion rate was horrid. The above additions, along with what is already in place on offense will take the Rams from always being described as "awful" to "lethal" this year. Book it.

This is exactly why I don't think the Rams should go WR in the 1st. Everyone wants Treadwell/Doctson/Coleman but Gurley and Austin both need a good amount of touches and have shown that they're always threats to break one off if given enough opportunities.

I'd argue that it's more important for us to get a sure fire TE to act as a safety net for 3rd downs and the short passing game. I'd rather us spend a 2nd on a polished pass catcher like Hunter Henry then have to wait for a 4th/5th rounder to develop.

Imagine this offense with a Greg Olsen or Travis Kelce type. Add a deep threat and that's more than enough weapons for an average QB.

I agree the rams need a scary TE more than wr. You put a TE that defenses have to think about and that added dynamic will make teams pay. With Tavon, Gurley, and the top TE in the draft, defenses will sleep on Britt, who will make plays in single coverage. It gives Case playmakers at every level and point on the field at the same time.

Boras needs to get Gurley involved on third down in the pattern like Martz did with Faulk. No need to reinvent the wheel, just cue up some film of the GSoT and Faulk running a lot of the classic TE patterns. Gurley could do that plus bust long TDs and field position flips for this offense. Dude is very, very smooth catching/running with the ball.

The release of Cookie was a textbook application of addition by subtraction. We need an above average receiver for 3rd downs especially. It would be nice if Wes Welker returned, but, after being exposed to QB circus in Saint Louis last season, he may want to wash his hands of the Horns entirely. A solid receiving TE would be nice, especially a Pete Holahan-type. If Sted can make his comeback, I wonder if he can handle the slot like Wes did last season. I would much prefer to have Tavon being moved all over the field so DC's have a harder time scheming to take cheap shots to knock him out of the game.

Boras and Co. also need to get the Gurley Express! involved on some HB option passes. He's done it in college, and he has the arm to heave the ball quite a ways downfield. Of course, they also need someone who can actually, actually catch the damn rock too!

Martz also had Faulk run out of 4 wide sets and he usually got big gains. I'd like to see the same thing with Gurley. On third down with the defense in nickel or dime and 3 WR's set up wide and 1 in the slot it would be harsh for opposing defenses.

I don't know how anyone could watch that breakdown and insist that Fisher doesn't know what he's doing. Now I almost feel like they should take Elliott in the draft at 15 and draft all QBs and Mike Thomas after that.

Fishers knows the run game. That shit is brilliant. I have a new appreciation for what they were doing.

At the games I realised I would spot the play and pop up well before anyone else and yell "here he goes" with TA and Gurley. I guess I kind of had an instinct for the scheme without understanding it.

Will Fisher ever build a passing game as a Ram though? Time will tell. Hell, it would only have to be decent to put the Rams over the top.

I'm starting to get anxious about the draft.

Execution has been our biggest achilles heel. Which includes drive killing drops.
If we can get a real difference maker at TE and a decent QB this offense isn't that bad.
We all know we have the RB and finally using TA the right way is huge.
Man, we could of easily had 10 wins last year if not for stupid drops and penalty killing drives.
This draft is huge to taking the next step. Hope we get it right.

I don't think there is a good TE worth taking even in round2 this year. A good WR will help free up Austin and Gurley better than an average TE.

Yes a sure fire TE would be great. I was suggesting Tyler Eifert just before they signed Cook. Thought Cook was a good pickup but, I was dead wrong. I sure handed TE like Hunter Henry would be a great move. Rams need to get more pieces on offense to become a playoff team.
