WTF is this garbage?

Once vaunted for their refusal to rebuild, the Rams are in teardown mode entering the 2023 NFL offseason. Big-name starters like Jalen Ramseyand Leonard Floyd have reportedly already been shopped on the trade market. Now quarterback Matthew Stafford is among the potential casualties. Just a year after giving Stafford a $160 million contract extension following their Super Bowl run, Los Angeles has been calling teams about dealing the QB, according to NFL reporter Michael Lombardi.

"Matt Stafford is fully available," Lombardi said on "The Pat McAfee Show" Thursday. "They would love to trade [him]. They can't [easily] do it, because he's got $57 million guaranteed. [But] they're trying to get out from it. [They've] called teams, I know this."

Officially, Stafford's four-year, $160M extension includes $63M guaranteed, per Over the Cap. The Rams would actually absorb a net loss of $54M by trading Stafford before June 1. If they were to deal the QB after June 1, however, they'd instantly save $1.5M, as well as tens of millions from 2023-2026. That's discounting the possibility of another team taking on large portions of Stafford's guaranteed money, or renegotiating the contract entirely.

Stafford's career prospects have changed in a hurry. A prized acquisition for Sean McVay and the Rams ahead of the 2021 season, he arrived from the Lions as part of a blockbuster trade package including two first-round draft picks. He threw a career-high 41 touchdowns while guiding L.A. to a Super Bowl LVI victory. But injuries wrecked his offensive line, his supporting cast -- and then his own health -- throughout 2022, in which he played just nine games and downplayed speculation of an early retirement.

Fully healthy, Stafford remains an above-average starter. But he also entered 2022 with questions about an injured elbow, and his contract would require clearing the aforementioned hurdles. It's unlikely he'd have a serious trade market until deep into the summer, provided there are still teams desperate for a proven starter.

It never made sense because there's no savings haha

I think you answered your question. Barring a complete mental breakdown McVay is along for the ride. It appears hes pursuing a major retool for a 2024 run with an eye on a bigger rebuild (without Stafford/Donald). beyond that. It’s good to win a SB but it’s great to win 3+.
Well ive got to admit that i seen the clip above of Mcvay discussing his future and didn't notice at the time that the post was from January. I was confused and thought something had changed because before I seen that I expected Mcvay to be around for the next two years atleast. My mistake

The people spreading these stupid rumors are probably doing it based on Jordan saying in the podcast that teams had called about Stafford. She didn't say they took any of them or even listened.

It never made sense because there's no savings. I didn't believe it but just shared info.

If it were anyone but Lombardi - I'd pay attention, although I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility, but very doubtful.

BTW - check out fatso's employment record, especially with Cleveland. He's an asshat blowhard.

Yes. Teams have done this before. They agree to the trade and hold off to finalize it for cap purposes.
No we're not that defeats the whole purpose when dealing with a QB. It pushes compensation back to next year, increases his guarantees to us if we do not in fact trade him and pushes back even greatly hurts our chance to get his replacement. Trading him after June 1st is bad for the Rams.

Let's get back on track. You stated it was impossible, I explained why it isn't. Nobody's saying that it's a good idea.

I'd have to see an example of that
No way the Rams would agree to trade him and not be able to use whatever draft capital they were receiving until next year.
I've heard of teams agreeing to a trade before the league year begins, but thats a whole nother story

If you read the whole thread of replies, I'm NOT saying it's a good idea! The original post said it was impossible and I explained how it is possible with a post June 1st deal.

Yeah he has always disliked the Rams and loves to shit on them. He's just running with the rumors that Stafford played through a shoulder injury last season, and making an educated guess that they're also dangling him on the market with the others. Not a bad attempt but since he's such a stupid bastid it looks bad on him. :laugh4:

The Rams would probably have to give up draft capital for some team to take on his salary, just like with Goff.

Give me a break. The minute I saw the report I knew it was BS. The next thing will be AD is on the block. I think the Rams have made fools of the Media year after year. So they just keep on making shit up so eventually they can say they were right all along. I mean why not. No body is held acountable for what shit they say these days. So Fuck it.
