Actually, Gurley hit the line of scrimmage so fast, that he blew right threw two defenders, like a wideout. But, on that play he was in the backfield, lined up directly to the right of Goff. At the snap, Gurley just took off to the right, and immediately into his pattern. Didn't stop to block or anything.
Great to hear Gurley is getting work as a wideout. I've been expecting him to develop into more of a route runner rather just an option to turn around out in the flat somewhere. With his smarts and incredible ability no reason why he can't expand his repertoire into some real receiver stuff. Just creating another mismatch against opposing defenses...

Also would be curious to see who can get down field faster, Cooks or Gurley. Assume it should be Cooks but Gurley can outrun the d backs too.

Yeah. Great day at training camp! The swagger is back with this team. Gonna be a great season fellas!

Met up with @VeteranRamFan and his grandson. He is a super nice guy. Showed us around, talked about the Rams over the years. Big thanks again!

Some standout plays were a sideline catch by Kupp, where he reached up high and snagged a bullet pass from Goff.

Joyner had a nice pick later.

And, most interesting, was a formation with Gurley lined up as a wide-out. Both VeteranRamFan and I can't recall a play from last year with Gurley as wideout, so maybe it's McVay busting out some new plays.

Lastly, great to see Suh out there. He looks big in person. And, he seemed motivated and to be working hard and focused, even during warm ups. He seems like he wants to be playing some football.

Anyway, exciting stuff today. Way better than the crap we saw Thursday night!

I can remember a handful, but I'd love to see more. The most memorable was the Goff Int against Arizona. Gurley was running a slant and got blasted by a defender, which allowed the other Cardinal defender to get an easy Int. Was ridiculous there was no PI called.

Yes! I was at that game last season. But. Gurly also came out of the backfield on that interception. It actually looked very much like the same play as Gurley's touchdown at Dallas, but with an opposite result!

That’s not the point for most around here. I mean, even when Goff got pumeled his first year, many were able to understand the effect of the supporting cast on a QB.

The issues with Mannion are
- even when he has time he makes many bad throws
- his lack of mobility to extend a play...even for a second. Terrible footwork
- his ability to read and go through progressions with any sort of speed or under any sort of pressure.
- and many of those things have lacked in progress for a QB who has been around the NFL 4 years.

Most of us would LOVE to know we have a viable backup QB. He’s just not it. And ‘time with the ones’ or with ‘better backups’ isn’t likely to improve those deficiencies.

But I do respect where you’re coming from. I just disagree.

I agree with you and I was firmly in the "give him a chance" up until the end of TC last year.

Man, it's got to be Cooks over Gurley speed wise. At camp today Cooks had some impressive routes. Caught a couple nice homerun balls from Goff. He looks like a really "smooth" route runner, somewhat similar to Bruce.

And, fricken Goff looked real good today too. He was tossing some fastballs into tight coverages, lofting some pretty balls downfield, and accurate balls to the sidelines, like the Kupp catch I mentioned earlier.

This team looked sharp today. They worked hard today. Fast paced practice, but guys were hustling and working hard. If they play like they practiced today, it's gonna be one hell of a fun season.

Oh, the corners. Talib and Peters. Man they looked good. Talib looks big, tough. Today at camp has got me really jacked up!!!

We're not going to risk injury to our starters to get Mannion reps. There are plenty of other backup QBs in the NFL who look plenty good with the second team.

Exactly. Mannion has had ample opportunities to show he's the guy and he has yet to look good going into his 4th season. At this point I would be in favor of Allen being the number two. Far from ideal but Mannion looks as exciting as a wet noodle out there.

Its hard to find a good pocket passer for a backup quarterback. I'd like to see them acquire a mobile QB who adds another dimension if Goff got hurt.

I get the logic behind not playing our starters.

And I am not a mannion backer Per se.

But he deserves a shot with at least the better backups. Notebloom, Demby, Blythe Elrenkamp and Williams.
Neary, Allen and Lucas were getting ran over and ran by.

Yeah we need a couple of these OL backups to pan out--not looking good at this point. But the play Mannion threw that hideous pick was one of the few he actually had time and protection....
