I was pretty disappointed in Stafford’s performance in this game.

Then I remembered this fact: He has thrown 27 TDs this season.

…while throwing 2 INTs.

That’s 1/2 as many INTs thrown this entire season than by Darnold in THIS ONE GAME.

….while tossing 27 TDs (did I mention that?)

Let that sink in.

I feel these numbers are somewhat "perverted" this year with the absolute ABUNDANCE of 1 yard TD passes this season thrown mostly to Davante Adams, who I'm not quite sure is living up to his reputation otherwise.

But we have a 2nd Half and Playoffs Football to come. Everyone has a chance for redemption.

It was a true veteran performance. All the greats have these. A bit off and facing a defense on their game.

You have to have a level of patience in not forcing stuff. Cut your losses and trust the defense a bit.

Darnold was the Antithesis today to Stafford's approach. Darnold forced stuff.

The only thing that really bothered me about our pass game was the last incompletion to Davante where we could of sealed it. How on God's green earth does a play get called (in such a critical situation) and the QB and WR are not on the same page. I understand choice routes and all that but it reminded me of when Kupp and Stafford would be on two different pages.

I put this one Mcvay. Call a damn play that you have practiced 100 times and QB and WR know where the ball is going.

It's not rocket science. Or maybe it is.
This is why most 3rd down passes go to Puka. That doesn't happen. Plus over the middle Devante is hearing steps. If Stafford doesn't hit him in the numbers it is 50/50 he is dropping them.

Lots of comments about the Rams, Stafford, McVay, TEs and drops ... mostly reasonable thoughts.

Not much mention of the Seattle Defense ... I think that is a terrific unit, with impact players at every level ... with size and speed that is highlighted by their physicality, and maximized by a terrific defensive head coach.
The refs let teams that press manhandle receivers. Especially if they are known to do it. They get away with contact past the 5 yards and tic tac PIs like what happened to Forbes don't get called. It is also why I have said many times over the years, that the Rams need to have bigger stronger DBs.
So as soon as the Hawks went to man to man it shut down our O. This has happened to the Rams alot in the past. It will now happen a lot the rest of the year. So I hope they come up with something to work against it.

He definitely did not play well, and that is actually great news for us.

He and Adams connected on only 1/8 targets. One out of EIGHT!!

Adams had a drop, but again this is GREAT news for us. I think we will win by 10 in Seattle later this year.

The Rams offense had it's most disjointed game of the season...
And the Rams won against the team considered to be the best in the NFC by many coming into this game. That's what matters.
You'll get performances like this, here and there... fighting through it for the win shows a team's character.

And.. most importantly.. Stafford did not get hurt or turn the ball over.

Stafford protected the ball, and that can't be understated. We won by 2, and any mistake by Stafford likely equals a loss.
They sped his clock up, which often means he can take advantage of a mismatch, the rush Stafford and get torched mantra.

Stafford wasn't able to take advantage he at times held the ball and others had no time, this was due to the Settle defense giving us a dose of our own medicine, keeping things underneath and getting pressure. They did a great job on Nacua & Adams too

Those misses by both Nacua and Adams were not fault-bearing. Stafford, Nacua & Adams were being challenged more than any other game this season, and that leads to imperfect execution. OL had some rough plays as well.
It was a tough matchup

“Perverted”?

We're a better team with Adams than we were last year. But like I keep saying he seems to me to be so defensive about contact that it affects his ability to bring balls in. He's had quite a few drops that a true top end wideout would not have made.

Also Stafford did not play well yesterday. We had the unsettled Stafford and at least some of that was probably Seattle's defense doing a good job mixing it up on the back end and getting heat on him up front.

When we face a defense like Seattle's we have to move the chains, which includes being able to do business over the middle. Our 13 sets weren't really capable of getting it done vs their defense. For them it was take Puka away and they had their best chance to get a stop. So while I appreciate Adams, he comes with some drawbacks, most notably that being he's not a monster over the middle.

We could still use that monster over the middle. Not sure if Ferg gets there this season but it would be the ideal development to expand our offensive potency for the playoffs.

I think we need a young 1st Round Receiver to pair with Puka going forward. Like Tampa drafted Egbuka to go with Evans.

I wasn't disappointed at all in Stafford.... He did well in spite of the below:

Stafford had to deal with Corrum not being able to get back to the line of scrimmage on any of his runs. Had to deal with Adams not catching balls. Had to deal with the Nacua's fumble. Had to deal with McVays horrible play calling. Had to deal with the defense letting Seattle march down 3/4's of the field on almost every possession. Had to deal with TE's whiffing on blocking assignments.
All of those points are valid and made it more difficult for Stafford. But the bar is pretty high for him, since he's one of the best there's ever been at the position, and I dare anyone to tell me otherwise. With the difficult circumstance of losing OBJ in the Super Bowl (with gameplan centered around him), and having the Bengals play D like they knew what we were doing, Stafford does stuff like hitting Kupp on a no-look critical pass when he's the only guy getting the ball.

Side note: I've been watching football for 5 decades, and that is still the best pass ever thrown.

You think so? I think Ferguson would be a guy I would want running 40% WR routes and 60% underneath. He's got great hands and he's pretty damn quick.

I think we need a Linebacker to replace Landman next season because I think he will be gone.

Im starting to think we need skill position with Atlanta's Top 10 (dare i say, Top 5?) Pick. Stud Running Back Jeremiah Love or stud Wide Receiver if there is one.

Agreed. And more importantly I would expect McVay to desire that as well, seeing how he never drafts high enough to find a true X wideout. And it just so happens multiple big X type wideouts look capable of slotting in the first 20 or so picks of the first round. There's some who should slot second round as well, but teams are gonna want them as they're a supply/demand role similar to LT and big CB1 types.

If that group lights up the 40 time board at the combine it's going to be one of the hottest WR classes up top we've seen in a while.

That’s what I saw, too.

Some brutal, drive killing drops by 17.
That’s why TOP was so lopsided. Rams didn’t possess the ball when they can’t convert third down.

I also wouldn't object to taking the Notre Dame Running Back.

Stafford was a little off. It happens. Seattle does have a good defense. They had a game plan for the 13 personnel. I do wonder if people gave their offense more credit than it deserves. They feasted on lesser opponents. Strength of victory was .394 to the Rams .506. Strength of schedule .480 to the Rams .549.

Seattle is a good team. Likely a playoff team. But they lack at the most important position in big games. I don't see them going deep in the playoffs. I do see us going deep.
