Seahawks unsure they will have Jamal Adams vs Rams - Turf Show Times

1609903972312.png

Seahawks safety Jamal Adams made a key goal line stop on Los Angeles Rams running back Darrell Henderson when the two teams last faced. In fact, Henderson injured his ankle on the play and could miss the playoffs. Now Adams is in danger of missing what would be his first trip to the postseason. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said on Tuesday that Adams’ status may not be determined until Saturday.

Seattle traded two first round picks, a third and safety Bradley McDougald to the New York Jets for Adams and a fourth in the offseason. He missed four games in the regular season with a shoulder injury, returning in Week 9 against the Buffalo Bills. The Seahawks defense improved as the season went on and Adams recorded 9.5 sacks, the most ever by a defensive back.

Adams injured his other shoulder in Week 17’s 26-23 win over the San Francisco 49ers. If he can’t go, the Seahawks may turn to Ryan Neal, a third-year former undrafted free agent out of Southern Illinois. Seattle had to change up many of their defensive strategies when Neal filled in for Adams earlier in the year, so it would be significant if he was out.

First Look: Rams travel to Seahawks for second-ever playoff meeting between the two teams

The Rams (10-6) head to Seattle to take on the Seahawks (12-4) on Saturday at Lumen Field in the Wild Card round of the playoffs, in what will be just the second-ever postseason meeting between the two teams in series history. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:40 p.m. pacific time on FOX.

In advance of the contest, here is your first look at Rams-Seahawks, including notable Seahawks additions, Seattle's top performers in Week 17 and key storylines:

Notable Seahawks additions

Activated CB Tre Flowers from injured reserve on Jan. 2. Flowers missed three games due to a hamstring injury, and during that time D.J. Reed played well enough to earn the right to keep Flowers' old starting job at right cornerback. While Flowers only played on special teams in Week 17 (16 snaps), the third-year pro has 42 games under his belt and still provides experience to Seattle's defense when in the mix.

Activated OT Brandon Shell from the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday. Per Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll's comments to Seattle reporters on Monday, Shell is expected to play against the Rams, and assuming that happens barring any unforeseen obstacles this week, Seattle would be getting its starting right tackle back.

Top performers in Week 17

QB Russell Wilson completed 20 of 36 pass attempts for 181 yards and two touchdowns, also rushing five times for 29 yards.

RB Chris Carson led Seattle's backfield with 11 carries for 44 yards, also finishing with two receptions for 39 yards.

WR Tyler Lockett was Wilson's top target, hauling in 12 of 14 targets for 90 yards and two touchdowns, all team-highs.

LB Jordyn Brooks paced the Seahawks' defense with a team-high nine total tackles, while DE Benson Mayowa added a forced fumble and DE Rasheem Green a fumble recovery. Mayoa also finished with two sacks, Green one.

On special teams, K Jason Myers both of his field goal attempts and 2 of 3 extra point attempts. P Michael Dickson averaged 53.2 yards per punt on five punts.

Early storylines to watch, and what they mean for the Rams

Whether it's Jared Goff or John Wolford under center for the Rams offense on Saturday, their offense will be facing an improved Seahawks defense.

Before surrendering 23 points to San Francisco last weekend, Seattle entered Week 17 allowing a league-low 13.9 points per game since Week 11. That's on top of finishing the regular season with the No. 5 run defense in the NFL, what has been the most consistent part of the unit this season.

For the Rams, that''s going to place an increased emphasis on sharper redzone execution following a Week 17 performance in which they came away with three field goals and needed their defense to come up with points as result.

Additionally, the status of Seahawks safety Jamal Adams will be worth monitoring. Already playing through a right shoulder injury sustained against the Rams in Week 10, Adams sustained a left shoulder injury against the 49ers on Sunday, and Carroll told Seattle reporters Tuesday that Adams is expected to be a gametime decision for this weekend's Wild Card contest. Adams has a team-high 9.5 sacks this season.

Laughing at Burleson "Seattle is the #1 defense over the past 4 weeks."

Try the whole fucking season -
Rams
#1 total yardage
#1 points allowed
#1 pass defense
#3 rushing defense

People are sleeping on this defense

Yeah that was pretty funny. They did nail it in the discussion, though, that Goff is the devil Seattle knows. But he's also played poorly this year and hasn't been the same guy. We lost the division up there in Seattle with Goff at QB on a day when he went 24 for 48 with an INT so this board belief that he's some slam dunk at the position is overdone IMO.

What Goff is not: an elite QB. He's got the high end talent but he has not played up to it and we've seen McVay's frustration for the first time in his tenure here with Goff. But some of you in the takes above are acting like he's been Joe Montana. C'mon man.

What Goff is: the QB the organization invested in. This is why I keep saying if he's healthy he is the guy. Because if you sit him here when he's ready to go you're gonna have to deal with that this offseason. If you don't give him the start in the playoffs how can you say you believe in him and that he's your starter? This is the MFing Catalina Wine Mixer people.

So Goff will get the start. Because of the investment and football operations side of things though. And in that scenario if he struggles the hook is on the table for probably the first time in his career. How will he respond to that? I hope very well and with a strong outing. I hope he fuckin tears Seattle up in fact.

It's good that some key guys like Akers, Jefferson, Edwards, Corbett, SJD, Gaines, Fuller, D. Williams and Obo are going to get their first taste of playoff football.

Ramsey's had a few games exp w/Jacksonville four years ago. Floyd was one and done in '18 w/the Bears.

In that last vid Wolford looks like some dude walking out of a liquor store. Almost imagined I saw a pack of cigs and a big gulp in his hands... :ROFLMAO:

Oh and I couldn't help but notice that Goff beat Wolford to the end of that ball security drill...

So in the last game the single most glaring problem for the offense IMO was Blythe. He got singled up a lot and then, well, kind of prison sexed I think is a good way to put it.

Prediction: Blythe will get a ton of help in this game. And we'll see a lot less of this...
