More good news re. Cooks: he has the same agent as Goff.

IMHO, Cooks signed a team-friendly deal.

Best move of the off season??? One of many that will make watching our Rams more fun for years to come.

Thank you Mr Kronke for making the Rams relevant again.

The point I was trying to make is that we were in a exact same situation with Watkins being on the last year of his contract yet they didn't sign him but they did make it a priority to sign Cooks.
Totally got that. I was saying maybe close, but not exactly the same. Maybe the Rams had a little bit of the high-speed wobbles on Watkins, which kept them from plunking down the big money. As compared to Cooks, which they seem to be in love with. So, I was just slightly differing with you as "exact same" vs. "close to same, but not quite".

Frankly, Rams would be in a great situation with either of the two, right?

Interesting that they would sign him before he played one down for the Rams but did not do the same for Sammy Watkins.

They may not have been feeling it as strongly for Sammy.
Sammy wasn't feeling it as strongly for the Rams. It showed in some of the play we all complained about.

I liked champ too but I’m pretty sure that “503 and his cronies” post was the quintessential final straw, especially when you’re more or less on “double secret probation” Not a real shining moment, I cringed the moment i read it.

You call out a mod, especially when you’re fresh out of a “timeout” and you sorta corner said mod into a no brainer

Then again, maybe i have this all wrong

Oh, and utterly thrilled with the Cooks extension:yay:
I am going to miss LAChamp if this is true

I don't know if he's gone forever. But I don't know (and doubt) that he can stay within guidelines if he's allowed back.

they know they have a homerun with cooks.

watkins had injury issues and it showed when he refused to adjust to any balls thrown behind him. if he doesn't want to plant his foot to come back to the ball he's not worth paying big bucks on a long term contract.

Let me see what we have here.
A) Sammy Watkins, who at times didn't run his routes correctly, and had never lived up to his potential would have cost us at least 16mil a year for 4 years.

B) Brandin Cooks on the other hand has exceeded what many thought he would, and is proving to being a hard worker, as well as a person of integrity, a nd wants to be a RAM, will be with the Rams for 6 years at an average of just under 15mil a year.

Thank you Sammy you snake god or scorpion god, or whatever you call yourself, yes thank for choosing to sign with the chiefs and blessing us with your absence.

If I had to payout max contracts for their respective positional costs it would be:

Ideally QB, LT, CB's, DE or pass rushing LB in a 3-4 , DT. Then Center, Guard.

Then WR/TE, MLB, RB.

Each situation is different depending on Rookie Contracts a team has.

I might want to reup Peters Contract next year or Suh, or save that money to replace Saffold or the right side of the Oline. Not to mention the Donald deal.

QB is obvious. LT I’ll give you. Even CB and DE.
Center and guard- $15M a year? Seriously?

For the number of plays they are actually involved in, I agree WRs are overrated and overpaid. But for a special one, especially when you need that “real” # 1 receiver, which Cooks has proven to be, I’m cool with it.

I was trying to praise Brandin Cooks, NOT slam Sammy Watkins.

I personally have no problem with Sammy Watkins and felt he brought a lot to this team with the mere fact of what he opened up underneath with the fear factor he brought as a deep threat.

He also helped us slam San Francisco and looked fearless over the middle in catching some of those touchdowns.

To be fair Cooks had hall of Famers throwing to him too

Brandin had Drew Brees and Tom Brady throwing to him---two QBs with arms not as strong and possibly not as accurate as Jared (especially if Jared raises his downtown accuracy). Still, Brandin averaged over 1100 yards and 8 TDs over the last three years (2015--2017). The only other NFL WR with that kind of performance was Pittsburgh's Antonio Brown, who averaged over 1000 yards and 7 TDs over the least three years. The fact is Brandin could have even more yards & TDs with a stronger, accurate QB like Jared tossing him the rock. Drew and Tom are simply not strong enough to make the really deep throws that Jared can.

Found these comments from a yahoo article on Cook's signing today:

JJ Jingleheimerschmidt

"Seems like a reach. He was good on the Patriots but not that good.

Izzie
"Okay, so if he's extending on a Rams contract one question. Why does the picture with this article show him in a Patriots uniform?"

Matt
Rams didn't learn from the Tavon Austin contract obviously lol

Dammit, you're right. Do you know how long I've been searching to prove I was right, only to find out I was wrong. Sorry about that. I hate being wrong, Dammit! You'd think I'd be use to bring wrong because I'm wrong a lot!

Now to deal with your question regarding watching the patriots. I'm a football junkie, the NFL, college football, and I still go watch high school games for the school I played football and basketball for.
So on Thursday, Sunday, and Monday I'm glued to the tv watching football, which means I watch all the teams, and the patriots are always on more than any other team.
Knowing the Rams were trying to get Cooks last year I paid closer attention to him, and it became obvious that Cooks needed to play on a team where the QB had a strong arm, so I was ecstatic when the Rams traded for him.

Did I tell you I hate being wrong? DAMMIT!

Haven’t we been wrong once lol! Makes more sense now on the Pats.

As for Cooks I like the player. I’m not crazy about making him the the highest or close to highest paid receiver though. I know we have money but I want to sign the right players and sustain a nice run of playoff appearances and Super Bowls. I hope this was not an overpay to save face on giving up prime draft picks and losing Watkins. Hope that makes sense lol.

Like they said yesterday, in three years this deal will look like a bargain.

Fear of only another 1 year rental WR was the only thing not making this offseason a grand slam to the moon. Now, it is complete. And as mentioned, leaves open a lot of doors the next couple of off seasons as far as tags go without having to worry about Cooks for it possibly. So have it free for others now.

Yeah... I was feeling a little boxed in.

This signing is a huge relief and creates room to move for other chess pieces.

I never said 15M a year for a guard or center. I said i would prioritize paying those positions but at their respective salary range.

We are going to have massive holes on the Oline next year. It would be nice to have some cash to fill some holes rather than relying on multiple late round rookies.
