Supreme narrative building. Just say you hate the pick instead of stupid crap like this. It means nothing.

As soon as someone gives you a list you will move the goal post to keep the narrative. Lamar Jackson is .02 meters taller and weighs 205 pounds. People pulled the same tired crap as you with how he was a gimmick….could throw, too small etc.

The reality is that you know as much as I do about him being good or bad. Making statements about first rounds picks who all have a failure rate near 50% is as valuable as grading the draft the day after.
Lamar Jackson started for 3 years in college. He played in a ton of games. He won the Heisman and almost won it again. He’s in a different stratosphere than Simpson athletically. And Lamar went 30th!!! Not 13th.

I wish we would've traded down if we were going to select Simpson. That's all.

We could've easily gotten him with a trade down. I'm pissed that Lemon and Bain were right there, and they pick a quarterback, when they're literally all in this year, when there are a whole hell of a lot of quarterbacks who are going to be better in the next draft, when he has an injury history just as extensive as Jordyn Tyson, when he can't make the throws Stafford can in his sleep, when he's had very fewer starts than any quarterback in the first round.

This looks like a bust to me with the injury history and picking him at #13. The only way he makes me eat my words is if he has a HOF career with us. That's it.

I fucking hate this pick. Mind you, I'm going to have a lot of copium later on, but right now, I'm fucking pissed.
It would be interesting to know if the Rams were offered and if so what.
It would also be interesting to see who else the Rams had heard were interested in Simpson where they didn't feel they could trade down.
Lemon etc, a big ol smoke screen.

I am wondering if they were completely far apart on this pick and that they were arguing with each other and that's why they are less ebullient during this draft discussion.
I think McVay would win the argument if it had come to this. It appears it did not. Not sure how excited he should be, in theory, he could retire before Simpson starts. Hopefully not, but its possible. Also, you don't want to act excited about drafting your franchise team leader's eventual replacement. He's good friends with Staff.

Of course you want your rookie QB to compete from day 1.

Those receivers you mentioned dropped a LOT of passes. R.Williams alone had 13, which lead all FBS Wr's at a 18.9% rate! Their receivers accounted for 30 drops on the season. That probably is top 10 worst in the FBS as well. That line may have some draft picks on it, but they were not good as a unit last year. I cannot recall a worse set of RB's with Bama either, they usually have studs back there.

All of this and he was leading for heisman and #1 pick in the draft before an injury, which he played through.

There is reason for optimism.

Did I want a immediate weapon in the 1st? Absolutely. This just might work out much better however.

I see the optimism, and he didn't have the team around him like Indiana or Miami, but it's not like Alabama had nobody but Simpson. That, I have to push against. The receivers dropped a lot of passes, but they're all talented receivers aside from that who produced a lot of yards and touchdowns against top opponents.

Alabama was a good team this year, receivers and O-line included. They would not have made the College Playoffs if they weren't stacked.

I don't want to watch it again but I'm pretty sure he was really firm with one question in saying this was Matthew's team for as long as he wants to play. That should really go without saying, in my opinion. Almost like he was saying "IDGAF who this kid is, this is Matthew's team and he's a backup at best until he hangs 'em up."

Edit: painstakingly watched it again and he said "lets make one thing clear, this is Matthew's team."
OF COURSE its Matthew's team! And taking Simpson doesn't imply ANYTHING to the contrary. He can sit for up to THREE years here!!!! Do you or anybody know how long Staff is planning on playing????

I’ll give this board credit. It’s literally the only place you can find Rams fans happy with this pick right now. Reddit, Twitter, everyone else right now is crapping all over the pick.
I am far from happy with this pick. But once the pick is made there is no sense in crying about it. And there is a chance we hit on the QB which is all that matters now.

The comments on the Rams socials responding to their "buy your Ty Simpson jersey here" are brutal.
He has an NFL arm I think and there are some things to like for sure, but, its spot he's drafted that bothers me. He also has physical size worries I suppose.
I think the Rams probably wanted to trade down but couldn't find a deal they liked. A lot of trading down and teams not having to give up a ton to move up.
So, drafted a back up (for hopefully a few years) in a supposed "all in" year is strange. Leaving impact players on the board at 13 to draft a guy who likely would have been available later (Cards probably would have drafted him) is what makes this pick sting to me.
I kept waiting for the Rams to move back up to land Cooper Jr toward the end of the first round.
The Jets ended up with two players I love and Rams ended up with one I don't like.
That said, my opinion is worth next to nothing, ha.
Weird pick to me. It seems a bit arrogant.
But, if the Rams win the Super Bowl or go deep in the playoffs.....certainly the expectation....the Rams are landing one of the QBs in next years first round anyway. So, in that sense, it can make sense if they like Simpson as an eventual starter.
I will be coping for a bit....
You guys do realize we are not privy to all the attempts to move up or down in the draft by Snead. We normally just know the end result of a pick. For all we know, Sneaf may have been killing himself to make several moves all night.

Well, all Simpson did was play like the best QB in the country with them when he was healthy despite an unusual high level of drops, poor running, and poor blocking. I know here on the board, people were excited about him being a top pick in the first half of the college year. Had he stayed healthy, he likely isn't sitting there at 13.

Another thing about the interview with Les & Sean regarding posture which of course is over analyzing and subjective is that when Sean said he had a conversation today with Matthew regarding the pick, maybe he wanted it to go better for a lot of reasons not worth guessing even more about.

Another thing to consider is that Stafford won a MVP last season after an offseason in which there was some drama with pay. And of course the Rams kept all of that under wraps. But if Stafford had his best season of his career when he was pissed about his pay, maybe bringing the kid in will keep him playing at an angry and MVP level. :laugh2:

Very true..
It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall.
