Agree. McVay STARTED to be done with Goff Miami game, then was mostly done with Goff Home San Francisco game (Nick Mullens) then was FINALLY done with Goff NYJ (0-13) game.
That home SF game was blown by McVay and his blinders-on playcalling. In a tie game, with the ball on our 25 and 3:11 left, he calls 5 straight pass plays and then punts. On his previous 6 carries, Akers had run for 61 yards, 6 yards, 1, 0, 4 and 6 yards. The Rams ate up a whopping 51 seconds before punting and that vaunted Brandon Staley defense allowed SF to drive 56 yards, including two 4th down conversions, for the GWFG.
The NY Jets game? IMHO, Goff was like the 4th worse part of the Rams that day, preceded by 1. the defense, 2. the special teams, 3. the OL.
On the Rams defense.....the 0-13 Jets had 3 long sustained drives.....
1st of game: 13 plays; 74 yards; TD eating 7:12
1st of 2nd half: 11 plays; 72 yards; TD eating 6:30
2nd of 2nd half: 10 plays; 72 yards; FG eating 4:30
Don't get me wrong, Goff wasn't good. But those other 3 phases of the team sucked worse.
And history shows, being done with Goff; trading him to Detroit for Stafford WAS THE ABSOLUTE CORRECT MOVE. Goff was never good under pressure and McVay needed somebody who was good. When your defense gives up long sustained drives to an 0 for 2020 team, when your special teams allowed blocked punts and blocked field goals, when your OC has brain farts, calling 5 straight pass plays with 3:11 left in a tie game, you need a QB who can dig you out of those type of holes. Stafford is the man!!!
I think McVay was done with Goff after the Miami game.....and that was partially McVay's fault for not adjusting to the way the Miami defense was playing. Bottom line is Goff wasn't good enough, period and McVay didn't want to wait around for him to get good (which I whole-heartedly agree with).
