I think this might be a blessing in disguise. The confidence in Goff is broken, the playcalling suffers, he suffers, the locker room probably starts to stink. Goff being injured offers an easy out to this situation, we can see what the back up has to show. If Goff was playing like in 2018 I'd be desperate but right now I think we've reached a point where a fresh face can only help.

BTW if we miss the playoffs, we might have a big problem because this defense has clearly owned its spot and if the offense is what keeps guys like Donald or Ramsey out of a wild card round at least, we'll see some strong resentment for sure. This situations are very dangerous for team unity, and I really hope we make the playoffs just for that reason.

This scenario worked for Philly. We need an “LA special” worked in to the plays.
Hurts is 1-2, and after a surprise opening win, he looked bad against a terrible Dallas D. So yeah, maybe for one game you take a team by surprise who never saw the kid play at this level, but the thought that this guy can compete for a starting job is a bit over the top.

That's ridiculous... The kid has taken some beatings over the years, especially in college and has bounced back.

The issue is the offense is broken, figured out, and lacks some key elements. In fact I would add that the offense is soft.

Started the yr attacking the edges with misdirections, forcing defenses to defend the field horizontally. This worked well against undisciplined defenses (Eagles) or poor defenses.

Early on though the Giants were disciplined and after that game I said this team really needs a deep threat. They sat on everything underneath and protected the edges. Made it tough to drive 80 yds that way.

And now more and more teams see that lack of a dynamic homerun hitter and just force the offense to make a lot of tight throws underneath.

And no, this is not a great running team. They can run if the pass and play-action set it up, not the other way around. When teams know we want to run it, a solid defense stops us.

This remains a finesse offense and a finesse offfense without a deep threat or a guy who is a big mismatch at WR. Plus, it's tough to impose your will running a dink & dunk offense without a strong ground game and expect to generate 10-12 play TD drives consistently.

Thus it remains an inconsistent offense and a predictable offense...and yes maybe the offense overall is soft.

But did he break it before the pick he threw in Q2???

He was trying to make a play. Obviously it didn't work out. Goff even called it one of his dumbest decisions in his football career. Whatever.

I kinda checked out of this season after the loss to the Jets. I'll watch the game against the Cardinals and whatever games if we make the post season, but those of you making jokes or celebrating Goff's injury should be ashamed of yourselves. I would use other language but I enjoy posting on this board. Dude has given everything he has to this team and took us from being perennial basement dwellers to 4 straight winning seasons and a Superbowl appearance. Get a grip.

Win or lose it will be fun and interesting to watch a different QB run the offense. I mean, this team is not getting to the Superbowl the way Goff and the offensive line has played lately. So, lets see what Wholford can do. It could create a controversy. It could give us perspective on Goff. And it will tell McVay if he needs a better backup QB next year.

i am one who thought we should give wolford a series or 2 when goff was playing bad. this would have lit a fire under goffs ass but playing wolford do to injury does not light the fire as much because goff just thinks it is do to injury not performance. if wolford does play well it still should give goff incentive to work harder to improve skills and we will not need to draft a qb

Yup winners want to be on playoff teams. This will be two years we don't make the playoffs.

I personally wanted Goff benched during the Jets game when him and a coach were on the sideline, the coach was going over something on his iPad and Goff was completely ignoring him. Goff was literally staring into nowhere day dreaming.

With the Gurley and Cooks issues coming into this season, both money and big pieces of the offense changing, I have looked at this as a mini rebuild season all year. I think deep down most of us expected that, to some degree.

But, we stated 4-1, and almost 5-0, thanks to a shitty NFC East, and I think that changed a lot of peoples expectations for the season. Add to that the amazing defense we have this year, and I think people stated thinking we were a legitimate playoff team/super bowl contender.

Honestly, with the short comings of this team, I am amazed we still have a shot at the playoffs. Goff has been bad, our center is really bad against power and stunts, our OL doesn't open up run lanes consistently, and doesn't give a clean pocket very often or for very long. All this adds up to not being able to throw the ball down the field, and defenses crowding the run game and the short and intermediate stuff.

I have quite enjoyed the Rams exceeding my expectations this year. The fact that we can still make the playoffs sounds great to me. I hoped we would be around 13-3 this year, but I knew we had major issues. I mean we had almost $38 Million in dead money this year.

I believe that the Rams have the 4th most dead money behind the Jaguars, Jets, and Panthers (Quite the Who's Who of NFL Power houses this season).

Now Goff is out. OK, Lets see what Wolford has. Fingers crossed. Maybe we still back into the playoffs. Maybe we even win a playoff game. Certainly possible. And, I would love to see what this Defense can do in the playoffs. Hell, maybe we even make a deep playoff run. Who knows.

And if not, and we lose and are out. I promise you guys... life will go on.

I am headed to the lake to go fishing.

Good post.
And to add, we have our kicker...at long last.

Lets see of the playoff teams:

1) We beat whoever comes out of the NFC East
2) We beat TB in TB
3) We split with Seattle
4) We already beat AZ, in AZ

The last 2 weeks have sucked, for sure. But anyone thinking we cant beat AZ and make a run is a pessimist at best and an awful fan at worst.

Hope spring eternal.

Austin Davis, comes to mind.
The kid caught lightning in a bottle for a few games.

If you've ever had to relocate a joint on your own, you know it happens pretty fast and in a slight panic. It really doesn't hurt as much as the discomfort of the dislocation status. So you want it back in place immediately. In my mind, the worst thing to do at that moment is nothing. To sit there with the discomfort of something dislocated is much worse than going ahead and getting it back in place. So you just do it. It really doesn't hurt but actually a relief. You are somewhat numb at that instance. I've had to do it multiple times with a ring finger and a shoulder. The shoulder is much more dramatic. I kept playing with the ring finger, just taped it to my middle finger. But the thumb is a whole different animal. Goff is sore as hell today and will be all week. We all know he's not famous for having large hands and he already throws a wobbly ball most of the time. I wouldn't look for him to play this week even with all the therapy and treatment available to a NFL player. Remember Warner's fumbling woes with his hand injuries? Think of Goff's ball security before this injury. Not a good recipe. McVay should realize this early and go with the WOLF. He really doesn't have a smarter choice.

Goff isn't the answer. His decision making is not good enough. I've defended him thus far, but that ugly pick against Seattle was the end of the line for me. We need a better QB - the next QB might have less arm talent than Goff, but if we can cut down on the turnovers, it will be an improvement. Goff is basically Winston, but with less backbreaking turnovers (which is crazy!), less athleticism, and better arm talent.

Troublingly, Goff does have his positive talents, as well - he went 1st overall for a reason. And after watching this train wreck offense, I am not sure if the offense is holding Goff back / failing to maximize his strengths, or if it is Goff's limitations (combined with a poor offensive line and no deep threat at WR) that are forcing McVay's hand schematicly.

Given how little our offense has adapted in what is years now, I scarily think McVay might be the problem. It seems he has no answers once his movements and misdirections get figured out. That's been an ongoing trend for a few years now - well before Goff's game took a nose dive. If the problem is McVay, we've got an even more serious problem on our hands than a subpar QB, as it seems McVay is here for the long haul (by contrast, the Rams have shown they will move off under performing players quickly). Year after year, most NFL teams are trying to bolster their offensive line. We are hardly alone in that regard. And I would say there are many teams with worse offensive weapons than what we have, with quarterbacks that are approximately at Goff's level (or worse). Why are their offenses better and less predictable than ours? That's troubling.
