They are paying a little more up front to end up paying him less later on. On year 10 of that contract (if he makes it there) his deal will probably be considered cheap with the way salaries have been going up.

Yeah, but anything that long is ripe for renegotiation. I don’t get the 10yr thing, except maybe it’s about headlines and they accomplished that.

they sure did. it made it onto the news here in australia. taking into account currency conversion they were saying it was a 10 year contract for $720 million.

insane.

That deal just gets more absurd the more you dive into it. Beyond the 45 million a year, beyond the no trade clause (not that you could trade somebody making that much due to cap acceleration hits), beyond almost ALL the opt-outs being in PM's favor and the only one the Chiefs have takes 2 years advance warning to implement...that rider that says, even if at the tail end of that deal it turns out people are making that much, he automatically gets raises to keep him in top 3 paid. Which means teams could feasibly do a weird poison-pill situation by which they load up dollars in a given year to take Pat out of the top 3 and have him get an automatic raise.

And on top of all that, a full 10 million over the next highest paid player. Just dumb on every level.

We will all look back on this Chief’s Super Bowl victory as the beginning of the end of the NFL

If you're a Chiefs fan, you're not losing sleep over numbers. None of that has anything to do with December and January.

All you should care about is winning games and titles. Tyreek Hill will come and go, they got Mecole Hardman to replace him, and whoever after that.

Stature has nothing to do with it. Running style does.
Odds are within the next 2 years this guy is going to get driven into the ground like a tent peg and broken. Its like the old heavyweight mantra, if 2 fighters are really good and one is a big guy, other is not, take the big guy every time. Mike Tyson found that out. He had no shot against Lewis.
He will always have to deal with arms in his face and have to run. Thats where the tent peg comes in.

With Mahomes now averaging around 40 million per year how good does Jared Goff's contract look now?

About as shiny and nice as Mahomes Super Bowl Ring. Mahomes contract is steep but can't deny that talent. You find a Hall of Fame talent, you retain it. And I think Mahomes contract could look like a steal in 5 years as the market inflates.

Plus, it's not like we have a massive bargain with Goff. We have the 4th/5th highest paid QB and IMHO nowhere near the talent of Mahomes.

You guys here gotta stop using his frame for durability concerns. Nick Foles, Ben Rapistberger, Cam Newton, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Flacco, Sam Darnold, & Josh Allen all suffered injuries where they missed numerous weeks or even season ending & they’re all big as hell. Being big doesn’t make you less likely to get injury, it just makes you a bigger target.

I would understand it if he ran recklessly, but if one watched him last year, one would noticed he avoids hits like a guy avoiding his mad girl/wife.

Goff suffered a concussion his rookie year. First year. Seems to have gone well for him ever since.
Yeah and Goff was stupid on that hit when he didn't go out of bounds. He learned his mistake that pros hit really really hard when they have a shot at you. Goff learned from that mistake and hasn't taken a big hit since other than sacks or late pressure on throws that he couldn't avoid the big hit. Still hasn't gotten injured yet.

Murray might be smart enough to avoid the hits like Wilson but he is even smaller and not as tough as Wilson and I just have a feeling one big hit is going to knock the living shit out of him. We will have to agree to disagree on this because I just don't see him long for this league no matter how much you say otherwise.

Goff still beat Mahomes in that all out offensive war.

SF couldn't do that with their dinky QB once Mahomes got on fire.

Super homer take here.

When Goff is at his best, there isn’t a better QB in the league. I might be young but I’ve been watching football for 16 years. Goff is the best I’ve seen when things are going right for him. At a level this league has only seen a few times.

If he puts everything together, you’ll be watching him go down as one of the best to ever do it.

Doesn’t look that small to me, but I digress.

Seems like a lot fans here thinks he’s -going- to get that “one big hit that’ll knock the shit out of him” almost to the point that it’s -hope-. However, it is a divisional rival’s site so I’m not expecting any kiss up obviously, lol.

Meaning what? Brock Osweiller won a game against the Patriots and Tom Brady, does this mean Brock Osweiller was better than Tom Brady?

The Rams had an arguably much more talented roster in our Superbowl run and we lost. I'm not saying Goff is bad. The guy got us to a Superbowl. But I don't think he can pull a team from a deficit and make the plays to win the big games like Mahomes.

It's like comparing Aaron Donald to Fletcher Cox. Fletcher Cox is great. However, I'd rather pay for Aaron Donald because I think he's a Hall of Fame talent and worth every penny he's getting paid. Some might disagree and say we could have a Fletcher Cox and another player for the cost of Donald. To each their own.

Soon to be the GOAT they got him at a bargain

It's crazy how obvious this is to everyone.

I pointed to Mahomes when people asked me about Goff's contract, saying "I'm glad we locked him in before Mahomes deal"

Now you see this and it's clear how everyone understands that Mahomes is different.

Here is what spotrac has on the Mahomes deal. Doesn't look bad at all. They have to dead cap hit after 2024. In 2025 they probably redo the deal but he gets $41.950 Mil if they don't when he is 29. First, three years are very team-friendly. He gets money upfront and guarantees. They will be in the hunt for a number of years.

But I don't think he can pull a team from a deficit and make the plays to win the big games like Mahomes.

He did against the aints in the NFC title game, in OT and already mentioned against the Chiefs.

Patrick Mahomes though by himself is on another level. Every fan of every other team should be jealous of him. And there's nothing wrong with saying that. I'm not going to spend the next decade hating on a player that appears to be a good guy and nothing to do with my favorite team. Not on a division rival, not in the same conference, and no where near my city.

Anybody ever wonder how things would’ve been different if the Chiefs would’ve been in the SB against the Rams 2 years ago? The earlier meeting was one of the best Monday nite games ever imagine the hype.

We could only dream of a more enjoyable Super Bowl to watch. Rams vs Patriots v2 was a long slow game from most fans perspective (especially fans of other teams.) Lowest scoring Super Bowl in history. Who would have predicted that?

Yeah, that’s a tricky one to see.

Something will need to be done here. Right? I numbered 1-5, because that’s after the 5th year.
