He's kept his weight down for 2 years and that was one of biggest problems. So someone will take a chance on him as their starter and pay him.

Our defense in 2015 & the way in which Fairley was used in our defense (pure rotational back up reserve interior DL)was great for his career IMO. Fairley usually gave Aaron Donald a break & I'm sure the OL'er who had Donald's assignment was a headcase by the time Fairley got his chance at him.

Other teams paying for a full-time 4-3-4 technique DT will most likely be disappointed. They will also have to pay way more than Fairley will be worth. Fairley can play both of our interior DL post well so it was a perfect Ram marriage. I will be paying close attention on following Nick to see how far off I was.

Report: Patriots out on Nick Fairley, expected to sign with Saints

Defensive tackle Nick Fairley has drawn interest from several teams since the start of free agency earlier this month and it looks like he’s closing in on a decision about where he’ll sign for the 2016 season.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Fairley is expected to sign with the Saints, who met with Fairley last week. Rapoport reports the Patriots are out of the running for his services and presumably the Jets and Eagles, who also showed interest, have fallen out of the running as well.

Fairley would likely slot in next to nose tackle John Jenkins on the interior of the New Orleans line. That would likely lead to more playing time than Fairley saw as a member of the Rams last season. Fairley played behind Aaron Donald and Michael Brockers and saw 422 snaps on defense over the course of the year.

Fairley had 29 tackles and a half-sack over those snaps and had 98 tackles and 13.5 sacks over four years with the Lions.
And Fairley will have an Old friend at MLB "JL!

Saints finalize deal with defensive tackle Nick Fairley

Nick Fairley was expected to sign with the Saints after his visit, and now he has.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the veteran defensive tackle has agreed to his one-year deal with the Saints.

Fairley found a fairly soft market, though the Patriots showed some interest.

He’s shown flashes as an interior rusher, with 11.5 sacks in 2012 and 2013 with the Lions. But the former first-rounder had just 0.5 last year with the Rams.

For the Saints, any help pressuring the quarterback will be welcome, so they’re willing to give Fairley a look.

I'm glad JL has a buddy with him. But a few things. First, how can they afford this? I heard that they had like just over $1M in cap space, before JL's contract is even on the books. Second, another one year trial? What's up with this guy that teams are so afraid of? The Rams should have thrown a fair offer out there for three years or so. He probably chooses job security over constant moving and one year deals. Happy for the dude though. Was happy with how he played for us.

Rams paid him 5 million 1 yr deal & the Saints will pay him 3 million 1 yr deal. Would appear that the Saints could give Nick Fairley what he wanted...... to START not rotate as a back up. I wonder what the Rams offered him? I expect Quinton Coples to fill Nick Fairley's 2015 role as a back up to Aaron Donald in the disruptive 3-technique tackle. Coples can also play both right & left DE posts too. Rams tied up Coples for 2-year deal with a base value of $6.5M.

The loss is Rams are without a legit back up for Brockers. The Gain comes from Coples being able to play 3 DL posts & the main thing is behind RDE Quinn. We saw last season that Eugene Sims lacks any pass rush pressure but can hold his own in the run game some. Coples might work well back in his old NC star position with Quinn...at least that's the hope.

I expect that Sims will get a ton of action behind Aaron Donald in the 3-technique tackle roles that Sims has played so well in his past here. Giving Ethan Westbrooks & Quinton Copes the control of the RDE post if DE Rob Quinn is unable to continue to play.

It would have been nice to get Fairley back, but the Rams have a ton of young d-lineman like Trinca-Pasat, Westbrooks, and even Worthington, so maybe those guys are ready to take those reps. This is also the deepest DT draft in years so finding a 3rd rotational DT won't be too difficult if they aren't comfortable with what we have.

Fairley came here to jumpstart his career and even though he played well he was mentioned after Long, Quinn, Dondald, Brockers and sometimes Hayes. Even if the money was equal moving on to team where he is unquestionably the best DT maybe DL on the team is probably better for him career wise. Its an extra 3 million the Rams could use to extend their two starting DTs in Brockers and Donald.

I can't argue with anything you say. I have been wanting to see what Trinca-Pasat has every sense he was Drafted!! I Like him!! I just worry about Depth on the team all the time!!

Me too. Fisher never dressed Louis Tricant Pasta last season @ all. Big Unknown there with that 2nd season DT. I am interested about him & if he will be big enough this yr to play any NT posts other than in the pass defensive line packages. LTP was 6-1 290 @ the combine last February. I wonder if that will be much different this yr. Right now the Rams have 10 DL'ers signed now.

It would appear to me that what might be lacking in our DL depth thus far is #1- a run stuffing reserve NT & #2- a pass rushing specialist @ right DE. That's it.

I just want to see IF Trinca-Pasat can Back up his mouth with actions. After he was Drafted he swore " Teams that passed on me are going to pay!!" ( I Loved it) I think he can!! He definitely Looks the part!

LTP is one tough DL'er He was a three-year starter. Yes tough if you can start all 13 games in 2014. Start all 13 games in 2013 Start all 12 games in 2012. It was a surprise that he did not get drafted he was projected to go early on the 3rd day.

The #1 brought out negative on him was his size 6-1 290 ....same thing said about the 6-1 285 pounder named Aaron Donald too. If the Rams were to have both these shorties on the field starting @ the same time in the inside ......it would be a great photo.

It certainly didn't help Fairley's negotiating position to be a FA in a year when the draft is historically deep at his DT position. Plus he's kinda considered best as a backup these days.

Timing is everything. Lol.

Looks like he signed another 1 year deal for $3m + incentives?????!!!!!!!! He must have wanted to be somewhere where he could start because I'm sure we would have signed him up for that in a heartbeat.

This doesn't hurt us at all, might help. LTP and Longacre are plenty capable of playing in this league and if Couples plays up to his potential, we are golden.
