So...now that my head has re-attached ....

a couple of thoughts...

The stories that came out about the Browns insisting on Verse, kind of tells me we tried to get Garrett with BY at first.

I got to say though...

as much as I hate to lose Verse...

you have to make this trade...

Myles Garrett is the dominant player in the NFL right now....

His cap hit over the next 3 years is reasonable....

Verse was solid, but it's an upgrade at the position for sure...

and you sent them 1.....only 1 First round pick....

the 2nd and 3rds you sent, are in different years so you still have 2 picks in the first 3 rounds for the next 3 years....

We didn't mortgage our future at all with this....

and yeah...we're going to have a really good defense!!!!!

The reports linked were BY and 2 firsts. So they value Verse more, the difference between a 1st and the 2nd and 3rd combo whatever that works out to.

Up and coming Superstar???

Nah, I'm not gonna allow that without challenge. He's still a wait-and-see case in my mind as far as SUPER star goes. Star? Maybe.

Board? Thoughts?
Yes, Verse is an up and coming star. He's obviously not Myles Garrett but he's done extremely well to start his career. You don't get double teams like he did unless teams know you're really good.

For tose thinking compensation was possibly too high remember that cap hit was a big part of this deal and must be considered.
Garett is almost 5 years older but it feels like more since he was drafted at 21 wdereas Verse was 23.

The Stafford trade taught me there is more to trades than age and upside. When you can go from very good to elite it has to be seriously considered
Agreed
Heck, Crosby was traded for 2 1st and one of those was #14. He’s not the same player as Myles and is coming off an injury (trade backed out of obviously). Our picks will be nowhere near 14.

I love this trade.
Young led the Rams last year with 12 sacks.
He had a better year, and for most the season, outplayed Verse. I understand that perception is just mine and may not reflect a players total value. They are also players with different games and skills, I get all that. Young was impressive to me until he got dinged and faded.
Garrett had as many sacks as the next 6 and change Rams combined.
He is also an elite run defender.
I really loved the Verse pick and I love Verse. I hate this deal for him and don't like to see him leave.
Supposedly, the options were one first and Verse, or two firsts and Young.....thats an interesting debate I suppose.

A couple of things to consider, this trade was made possible, partly, by the drafting of Simpson. The Rams don't have to worry about adding the QB in the next draft. It gave Snead a lot of flexibility with the pick.

Garrett is 30 in December. Verse is 26 in November. That is a big four years. But, the Rams were gonna be on a big hook for Verse extension after this year. Of course, Garretts price tag is big, but, the Rams can work with the deal I think if need be.
Garrett has said he wants to play 5 more years. That doesn't mean he will play at a high level for that long. He is such a physical one of one I could see him playing at a very high level for a long time.

The Rams saw their D fade down the stretch last year so, they attacked the weakness. The front office added an All-Pro CB, and good CB 2 and the best defensive player in the league in Garrett.

Verse is very good.
Garrett is considerably better.

I think this is a trade that moves the needle.
Hopefully not having to ask Stafford to carry the team to 35 points for a win will benefit him, his health in terms of shots he takes and of course the team as a whole. Running the ball and playing D still goes a long way in reality. If the team can only muster 17-20 points on a given week, they still can have a good chance to win a game like that. Passrush and coverage got better today, after getting better during FA.

If Shulda doesn't get a head coaching job after this year he likely failed.

Only time will tell, but, I dig this trade.
I wish Verse well and Im sure he will have a stellar career with Pro Bowls in his future.

I WANT you to respond.

After all, we are not Communists....

There is simply no evidence at this point that Verse is an up and coming Superstar. That is, if "superstar" means Garrett, Crosby, Watt.

He might make Star. That would be Trey Hendrickson, Aidan Tomlinson, Nick Bosa level.

He COULD make superstar still, but lets not say it like its a given. Not by any means.
Commie!

Donald's great but you started to see the age a bit the last two years. I still think he could be great on a pitch count.
I disagree. AD would be a beast as he takes really good care of himself. As Chris Long said, Julius Peppers played a long time and was effective. At age 35, Peppers recorded 10.5 sacks. I'm betting AD could surpass the number on the field with Garrett.

Yep. I think the Rams tried with young and 2 1sts but the Browns didn't want anything to do with that. It was Verse or no trade.

.
I know but man oh man would having 2 top pressure getters of the QB had been awesome. Oh well its still awesome with a touch of sadness we got to give up on a great young up and coming player.

Well said.
I heard it was 2 firsts and Young or 1 first and Verse.
The Browns FO likely wanted Verse to allow them to tell the fans they got an excellent player....which they did.

Young isn't chopped Brown either....12 sacks last year lead the team.
I am interested to see if it helps free up Turner and the other down lineman.

I would rather have thrown in Young with more picks. This argument about paying Verse seems to leave out we have to pay Young pretty damn soon too. Young is older than Verse plus I feel like Young won't get much better vs Verse is only scratching the surface with all the pressures he has had. Verse also did better vs double teams than Young which might help explain why Young got more sacks. Verse would have been able to benefit from Garrett's presence for more one on one's.
