"What made you believe that Sam was your guy?"

"It was his ability. What he was able to do in college, but also his rookie year. We discounted last year. Didn't pay any attention to that. There were a lot of difficult things to overcome, and a lot of issues, and it didn't make sense dwelling on that. I think what Sam was able to do here his rookie year, in that type of offense, is an indication of the potential he has."

Some more stuff he said.

Asked about his impressions of the "2 young tackles."

Fisher: he says, a lot's been made of the OL. (It sounds like he means there has been a lot of criticism. His attitude seems to be that he's not listening to it.) [All direct quotes follow:] "I think they've been unfairly criticized. A lot has to do with scheme. A lot has to do with your approach. You run the football as far as protecting the qb. You can put a TE next to one OT and a back on the other side and get them (the OTs) help if need be. In this league every tackle needs help here and there. And it's not just the tackles. Everybody's responsible for pass protection. A receiver running the wrong route can get the qb hit. It's a matter of getting everybody on the same page and understanding the importance of it and again that's where you start--you start from protection. That's where we started the installation process a couple of weeks ago [ie. with the vets].
