It's obvious the front office is about signing the non-QB talent now, or at least what they can, to be able to sign the QB talent in a couple of years. They like to front load deals so I'm guessing Cooks and Gurley and hopefully AD eventually will have higher per year costs next year and the year after to take advantage of the cap room we have coming which will open the door for the huge QB contract that will probably be looming.

It really depends. Maybe AD is asking for an unprecedented amount of money . Snead and denoffare obviously paying guys. Maybe it's Donald's end that's the holdup .

Snead and Demoff are definitely paying Offensive guys.....right now AD, Peters, and Joyner are outside looking in if they are not careful this could cause a riff in the team....

First reaction is that's really way too high an amount. Have to see the details. Could be high incentives. It's close to doubling D Freeman's deal.
Gurley was an MVP runner up though .I don't think Freeman is as good. And this is what projections were showing for gurley for a while now

If I'm reading this right, it really doesn't kick in for two more years ... so he's playing out his rookie contract then moving into the extension. Is this correct?

Correct! He plays out his rookie deal for the next 2 years, and we get him for another 4 years.

$45 mil guaranteed is the most ever for a RB. So Gurley is in a good position

You can't give a player exactly what they want is all I'm saying. We don't know how much Donald is demanding

I don't think it's too high for a RB of Gurley's caliber. Sure, there are risks with RBs, but Gurley is worth the risk because is an exceptional talent and is good at everything you want a RB to be good at. He has speed, power, quickness, great vision, is an excellent pass blocker and an excellent receiver as well. If last year's past is prologue, he could end up being a bigger, stronger version of Marshall Faulk, and no, that's not an exaggeration.

I'm really impressed with our FO this season. Barring a bad season our FO has really got their crap together.

Funny how a lot of people were questioning Snead and Demoff about not being able to sign their current crop of talent a couple of months ago. The FO certainly still has their work ahead of them but extending Cooks and Gurley is a good sign.

I don't think so. The defensive players are asking for too much money and our Offensive players seem to have a different mindset when it comes $$$ and contracts. Lets be honest paying AD like a QB just isn't smart money.

I just missed their press conference , what did they say about Donald ?

Now I'm even more confused on how we can afford to sign AD this season.

I'd almost bet my last dollar that we don't sign AD, let him play out his rookie contract and tag him for two more years. Hopefully we can by then sign him to a team friendly deal or let him walk. It seems like the writing is on the wall.

This like Cooks is being called an extension. I believe that means neither gets any additional money this season.

So it's going toward next years cap, which we have about $100 million free.

So if my calc is correct thats $74m ($4.3m 2018, $9.6m 2019, $60m 2020-2023) for 6 years. Averages out to $12.3m/year with an opt out for the Rams on the last year of his extension. That sounds pretty good to me for the best back in the league!

Optimistic me says everyone was on board with making Donald the final big signing before the season and it will happen before the 8/7 cut-off for his UFA status next year.

Makes sense now. I'm wondering if that's the problem with AD's holdout. Maybe they are trying to do the same thing with him and he wants his money now. If that's the case, then I completely understand why the FO hasn't budged.
