Haven't given free agency much of a thought. Rams are headed to the Super Bowl.

The dust will have to settle concerning resignings and cuts first. Peters probably stays so they can groom a couple more CBs. Hopefully, Saffold resigns and just maybe they work something out with Barron.

@TSFH Fan Hasnt Barr had some injury problems? Or was that just this year?
Real quick look:
Looks like a "minor" knee thing in 2014, a groin in 2015 for 2 games, and a hamstring for 3 games in 2018.
He played all 16 in 2016 and 2017.

I didn't see anything serious as long as you ignore the massive third degree burns he got from this year's game against the Rams.

Priority in order

Resign:
Fowler
Saffold
Littleton

Sign:
CJ Mosley
Landon Collins
Anthony Barr
Ronald Darby
Kareem Jackson
Tevin Coleman
Kwon Alexander

Obviously all won’t be available or signed but those would be my targets. CJ Mosley could do wonders in this defense.

We must retain Aqib Talib, by any means necessary. Look at how good he has been this year as a leader and a player, and how the defense responds when he is leading on the field.

Spags is the new DC of KC and he is a 4-3 guy, and not a 3-4 coach. Listening to KC radio, there is much speculation about whether Dee Ford will fit as a knuckles in the dirt, 4-3 DE. He might be available. He is very good, and might be an excellent Dlineman in our system.

Maybe to Mosley which would mean trading or releasing Barron. Even better - lets trade a 3rd round pick and Bryce Hager to the Jets for Avery Williamson. We would also need a safety to replace Joyner which should be had for a reasonable amount of $$$ (say less than $4M).

I agree on Mosley. I just figured it was wishful thinking, but Demoff and Snead have proven to be slick with the cap juggling.

I like Kareem Jackson but suppose he will get overpaid.

I may be wrong but I thought Landon Collins was more of the SS type. If he has range and recovery speed, then alright, because playing behind Peters, requires making up for Marcus' mistakes.

In of the opinion we can upgrade at all linebacker spots.. including littleton and ebukam and joyners safety spot (ive heard weddle may be finished in baltimore one more year to groom a replacement )

yes i know we wont upgrade all LB spots ... but they are our weakest link on D

I would resign Cory now. What tender will we put on him as a RFA? It’s got to be a 1st, right? In that case, we should be comfortable giving him a 4 year deal

Barron is gone, right?

Ebukam has raw talent, but needs to make a huge jump. That said, I would offer him a pay rise and new contract, but with very little guaranteed on the back end

With Cory and Ebukam tied up long term. I would sign Fowler, Clark (if available) and a SS (Boston) - then draft Bush or Wilson at MLB with our first pick

Suddenly, going into round 2, we have pro-bowl talent at every position on D, huge strength in depth at DL and LB, with a deep draft to address depth in the secondary

The beauty, to my mind, is we have the cap space next year to sign Fowler and one other higher priced OLB - then make another sustained run at the SB again

I don’t see it myself, he doesn’t seem like a fit. What ever the prediction at college level, he is no pass rusher and will cost a lot of $

Is it just wishful thinking on my part or could the Rams be able to sign some quality Free Agents at a little bit of a discount because they might just want to come play for McVay, Phillips, Goff and Company???
LA would be a strong pull for vets looking to sign up with a winner but for younger players looking for lucrative 2nd contracts generally money talks.

And while the LA lifestyle is appealing - taxes are a lot higher in California than in say Florida or Texas. If they aren't from here, and actually are thinking of their financial future, that may matter.

Rams will be active in FA due to a lot of needs and not very many high picks. Here's a quick look with crucial needs in RED and 2020 needs in ORANGE:

WR: Good
LT: Extension Required (Whit $15M cap hit 2019)
LG: NEED (Saffold FA)
C: Good
RG: Good (Blythe FA 2020)
RT: Good
TE: Good (Higbee FA 2020)
RB: Good (CJ Anderson FA)
QB: NEED (Mannion FA) (Goff extension?)

ROLB: NEED (Fowler FA)
DE: Good
NT: NEED (Suh FA)
DE: Good (Brockers FA 2020)
LOLB: Good
ILB: Good (Littleton RFA, and FA 2020)
ILB: NEED (Barron cut due to cap hit reduced to $2M in 2019)
S: Good
S: NEED (Joyner FA)
CB: Good
CB: NEED (Peters cap hit balloons to $9M and Rams might part ways hard to say since he played well in playoffs)

K: Good (Zuerlein FA 2020)
P: Good

I'm thinking we will see the Rams extend Big Whit and maybe get Fowler inked to a shorter term deal if Wade and company think they can take his game higher. From there I'd expect 2 or 3 solid FA signings (Guessing Backup QB, S, maybe ILB). NT should be addressed in the draft.

Big question marks are Saffold (can they afford him) and Peters (do they keep him since he should play well in his contract season 2020). I have to think they avoid creating another roster hole and decide to keep Peters around but we'll see.

  1. I want us to re-sign Fowler....Suh....and CJ... in that order..... we move on from Joyner and Barron. Use our first draft pick to draft an in the box type of safety...like Jonathan Abram from Miss. State. ….. then our next pick a tough ILB like Te'von Coney from Notre Dame to compete with Micah Kizer to play next to Littleton..... If any of that doesn't work out ….then you look for some reasonable free agents....

Whitworth is an interesting one, he is an elite player - should easily have made the pro-bowl. I mean, did any defensive star give him trouble since he arrived? I can’t remember if they did. Noteboom looks like a real prospect, so I can’t see us signing the grey beard to a long term deal - unless they let Saffold walk and play Noteboom at guard

I am curious, if we rework Whitworths final year to limit his cap hit - or potentially add another year....

Might this be a better option than resigning Saffold? Would we get a compensatory 3rd round pick if Saffold signs a big deal elsewhere? If his markets not big, then bringing him back is a no brainer

What we do with Whitworth, Saffold and Noteboom will shape what we can do on defense

Mosley would be one serious MLB'er for Wade especially if the Rams DL does not find a bona fide good Nose Tackle. Mosley does not have Cory's coverage skills either.

But would the Rams not be replacing the Rams defensive Captain & defensive caller in Rams Defense? Cory Littleton will NOT be an Unrestricted free agent in March. He is only a Restricted Free Agent. This is a positive here for Demoff & Snead! It can give them time to address Cory's long term contract next season & also Cory true value to the Rams defensive team.

UDFA Cory Littleton who was a UDFA & raised trained & homegrown to be a Ram is very special. Awarded a Pro Bowl invite this season! Usually, there are four different qualifying offers teams can make, though most teams only use the lowest three or four tenders. In Cory's case, the Rams Org. might end up doing something highly unusual.

Most all NFL teams usually designate lowest $$$ type offers & will make their decision from #3 & #4. Its a no-brainer to me, Demoff/Snead will go by way of Rams Right of 1st Refusal, or compensated with one 1st round draft selection & give Cory a one-year contract salaried of @ $3.2 million for the right of first refusal & a 1st round compensation. This will ensure Cory remains a Ram & gives him a nice pay raise from his $635 K this season.

Yes, you're correct on Collins. He is much moe SS than High Safety. He has played both when he was with Bama. Collins inconsistencies in coverage have been tested by NFL offenses the last four seasons & he has been beaten often.
