I was down on JL because he was always a liability in the running game. If you read his scouting report it says that at Ohio State he was weak against the run and wasn't stout enough. But, I will admit I had doubts as to whether it was the right move to depart from him and go to Ogletree. I was wrong. 'Tree is a huge upgrade on our defense. What I think we really need though is another big, fast, athletic outside backer who can rush the passer and cover. I still think we lack a bit of size with our linebackers - its fine saying we're playing a base 4-2-3 Big Nickel with hybrids - but I'd like to see us play three linebsackers sometimes on first down.

If anything our D helped to hide some of James's weaknesses.
The opposite, actually. Getting beastly interior linemen was supposed to make his job as the spill player easier.
That's when it became apparent that he was getting too easily washed out of plays. Before that, you could blame the guys up front.

Get your point. What I was thinking was outside of scheme. We have so many playmakers
on D that they would make the tackles he should have made.a la strong safety play coming up.Donald
playing Beastly against the run.Just a good defense around him.

The only play I saw last night he plugged a hole and stopped a RB one on one, a yard before the marker to force 4th down. It was a big play.

So there's that. I'm sure he's still decling though.

I wish our franchise tackles leader the best but he is on a decline. I still like to see him do good just like Chris Long with the exception when they play us.

Different team. Same results. But, sadly that's blasphemy to some.

IMO most realized that Laurinaitis was on his last legs, however, some just did not want to admit it. It's like the scene in Major League..."I wish we had him two years ago." "We did." "Four years ago."

As much as i love olgetree the guy is a head case how many times is he going to hit a sliding qb and i havent seen him make many Middle linebacker plays I have seen him make a lot of outside linebacker plays though.

I think everyone besides you agrees that both of those calls were BS calls. Not so much on AO but on the reputation that Rams play dirty ball. I think AO is playing within the guidelines.

Has he been fined for his hits?

Good guy. Leader. Smart player. But his physical skills have been on the decline for a couple years now. And he wasn't a good athlete in the first place. Never has been a LB that can fight off blockers. Once the athleticism started to go, his game started to go.

No I do believe that those were bs calls especially the 2nd 1 but even in the 1st game after he got hit with the penalty it was 2 more cases when he hit the qb while he was in his slide and 1 time he missed thats the only reason he didnt get flagged 2x that game. All im saying is that he needs to play with more control because those penalties hurt whether we agree with the call or not.
