from what I am reading, it might be because Skow was too close (within 5 yards) of the Rams bench, but by the video above that doesnt seem to be the case

edit: still doesnt explain the offsetting penalties
Maybe because he was never in the huddle. Just stepped out on the field and waved. I know fishers team had done it before, so not sure it's a good call.

Yeah, so far we are trying to find fault with one side. If the Rams did something that was a "Unsportsman like conduct" then how were the Giants hit with it too?

Another deal where the announcers didn't help out with what went wrong. I mean a fake punt is a big play and they just totally ignored the reason for the penalty..

The radio announcers actually acted pretty shocked by the penalty and couldn't decipher what had happened themselves. Unfortunately, they just left it at that and confusion won the day. Not even any sideline reports, it was as if they just wanted it to go away ...

What made it even more strange was that the referee never even called any numbers so we have an idea where to begin looking.

The refs fucked us.

Offsetting penalties for unsportsmanlike doesn't erase the play. The flags came out after the play was over. Unsportsmanlike like penalties against both teams means basically a warning for each player... his next unsportsmanlike penalty would then result in an ejection. The Offsetting part means no penalty yards would be assessed to either side.

The fucking play would not magically be erased though. That is 100% bullshit robbery.

Illegal formation is not an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Cheating (hiding a player) is, but what would be the penalty committed to offset THAT?

My only question at the time was whether or not it was a dead ball foul AFTER the play or not. If it was, wouldn’t the play stand and the penalties offset?

No explanation. Really? Negating a huge play like that and not even naming players (numbers)?

Refs definitely dicked the dog there. And it felt one sided tbh. Removing a big play for minor offsetting penalties is bad officiating. They should have picked those up just like some of the PI flags they picked up.

Also the signal the Rams use by the receiver to tell Hekk he's open is way too telegraphed. Both hands up high opening and closing signals the defense too. It would be far better to have them do a behind the back type wave and drill it into the punter to check left and right as the first two things he does as the play sets up. Might be the difference between a TD and a first down at some point down the road.

Look... if a play gets erased for offsetting unsportsmanlike penalties... then go commit one every single time a 4th down conversation doesn't work. You'll get an unlimited amount of tries that way.

Bullshit

Oh... and deception by the offense is not against the rules. Many fake plays have extreme deception designed into them. Especially fake special teams play. That is NOT a penalty.

It wasn't? Do you know that for a fact? In the replays you can see the flag fly straight up in the air from the sideline right after Skow makes the catch.

Refs don't always get calls 100% correct. The call on the field may have been unsportsmanlike, but should have been illegal formation if Skow did not check in.

After the referees conferred, they may have asked the head linesman if Skow checked in. The HL may have been looking elsewhere like counting the players on the field (that is part of their job). Skow probably came over and told the ref crew hey I checked in and the HL wasn't paying attention.

I never saw a second flag, so maybe the refs called offsetting unsportsmanlike penalties for a do-over. Some referees are more concerned with being right than getting the call right. This is what happened yesterday.

The TV network Gods speed dialed the NFL Parity Police who hit the big red button signaling the refs to NOT give the Rams an extra possession right there.

Obviously.

It was definitely flagged during the play.

I looked at the replay and the ref is throwing the flag right when Skow catches the ball.

One more thing...

You know we got fucked because of what McSlay said when asked about it after the game. He said he wasn't going to talk about it because he didn't want to get fined.

Case closed.

We were fucked and that is the end of it.

Yeah - horrible announcing. They had pregame notes in which they wanted to talk about & had stories of.
SJD69 had family there & played at Rutgers and made an excellent play.Meanwhile they are talking about Fuller & family being from back East.
Just the lack of game knowledge.Ben Sko came down & made a good play after a Rams score. No comment on it or play by play.

Giants coach was screaming on the sideline "watch the fake, watch the fake" -- so he knew it was on , pity his team didn't get the memo.

Unsure why it was called but it was more than likely an illegal hideout -- but why wouldn't the officials just say that ? And if the fouls offset why doesn't the play still stand? Or is that an immediate replay the down?

It's apparently an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty if you are called for "hiding" a player, but I don't really understand how that rule works, seems like a really fucking stupid one to me.

And how can it be offsetting?

I think they inserted that rule after Fisher had Hekker throw to Amendola for a TD against Seattle

I'm guessing NFL brass are working overtime trying to craft some kind of workable excuse (lie) that the media talking heads will accept. Final word has it that Roger Goodell is collecting all 1'st quarter game film so that it can be burned in private.

WFAN in NY just said both teams had 12 players on the field? Carton and Roberts then ripped the Giants for having 12 players on the field and still not covering Ben lol.
Gotta love it.
