Did anyone else on this board realize that Weddle had over 100 tackles, this season?

In another year he may stay on. He had some critical whiffs when it mattered but Played overall solid in my book.

The problem is we are cap strapped in 2020 and he is one of the few cuts we can make to free up money for an Oline signing.

He'll probably have 15 tackles , a forced fumble , and 2 INT's today since it means nothing

Weddle also was an invaluable mentor for JJ3, Rapp and the entire secondary.

I know we didn't get the results we wanted, but I really liked this roster.

Honestly, if we'd had the OL integrity that we had in '18, I think even with all the other issues, we are in the playoffs and a danger to win it all.

I'm not of the belief that we're in rebuild mode.

How many teams completely rebuilt their secondary during the season? And what was their record? Probably not .500 teams I am betting. It's actually remarkable that our secondary played as well as it did.

That said Weddle isn't the same guy he was even before the injury. He's small, slow, and lacks physicality and sureness in his tackling. I also wonder whether he adjusts Wade's calls more than they want him to.

I'll be very surprised if he's not an immediate postseason cut.

Weddle has been a good player in the league but his physical skills have diminished. He would make a great defensive assistant coach though. He knows the game.

Locker room leader and situational player not every down anymore is ideal

Weddle had 100 tackles. 101 of his tackles were too late, minus the one on Jared Cook. I know my math is not correct, but it's close enough.

I'd like to see him join the staff yes. Him and Whit are both guys who could come in as asst coaches and bring energy and good leadership/coaching to the team.

There's also the risk that cutting last year's signings, many at below market, make it less likely that the Rams will be viewed as a good place to sign at a discount. So the team needs to be careful on deciding to cut still useful players.
I think the lure of playing for a winning team with great leadership and players and the lure of playing in Los Angeles will override this risk.

Well, it's moot since he has made it clear he will retire instead of being the #3 safety. But since the Rams missed the playoffs that takes some luster off them as a destination. In terms of LA - it's a nice but expensive city, with high income taxes, so that is a negative. But to make up for the traded draft picks the Rams have to some extent counted on vets choosing the Rams at a small discount and before they listen to other teams. That is valuable.

I don’t know why I say this... other than gut feel. But Weddle didn’t stand out as the leader I hoped. I’d also say, and I’ve never said this before about a player, but he never struck me as a “Ram”.

Instead, he came because we were a SuperBowl candidate and his best option.

I just never really felt much love from him.

No real basis for why I feel this way.

But wish him well. He is a Ram.

I remember James Laurinaitis breaking the franchise record in total career tackles. While it's nice to have a high number of tackles, it can have as much merit as garbage time passing yards or TDs.
