Adding Young and Mathis doesn't replace Von Miller
Not yet anyway. I would never compare Byron Young to a hall of famer but I do believe he is on the right trajectory. Who knows, but I think this kid has all the tools to be a great one.

No it doesn't. But they weren't drafted to replace VM. They were drafted to replace Leonard Floyd. We lost Miller after 2021. Fans should let that go, just like they should with Creed Humphrey. Hell, why not still complain about losing Saffold? At least he played more than 11 games for us!

Tomlinson has never played SCB but IMO it's his best fit. He should simply redshirt this year and learn the position.
Tomlinson is a penalty machine, can't keep his hands off receivers... and you think that's gonna improve when he's dealing with a WR running a choice route on him?

Sheeeeesh!

By that logic then we're still short an Edge if we've only replaced Floyd which is exactly my point. It's not about "letting it go", it's about the team filling a HUGE void on the roster that has been ignored.

Creed Humphrey, Rodger Saffold have nothing to do with anything and I'm not sure why you're using them as an example because it doesn't make any sense.

I'm not saying go back and get Von, i'm saying they left his spot on the roster empty and no Ochaun Mathis, Nick Hampton, and Vancantgetpressureburg are not suitable answers. The position is too important.

I'm looking at Byron Young more as the eventual premier replacement for Leonard Floyd while we bring in an elite free agent that replaces Von Miller. Mathis & VanValkenburg could end up as our top rotational pieces. Hoecht goes back to the DL.
jmo.

WHY DO WE NEED AN ELITE EDGE RUSHER WHEN WE HAVE 6TH ROUNDER ROOKIE SENSATION OCHAUN MATHIS?!

We rank #24 (8 spots from dead last) in team pass rush. I'm not saying Young isn't a good pass rusher, im saying everyone else outside of Donald and sometimes Young is dog shit at getting to the QB.

It's a process, it's a process. We knew this was going to be a work in progress going into the season. Rams have helped here & there with Jones and an occasional safety blitz plus they have been close on just missing on multiple sacks, but it is obvious the Rams need someone opposite Young, maybe Mathis gets more time leading to an uptick in the pass rush.

Ochaun Mathis is the replacement for Leonard Floyd while Byron Young replaces Von Miller.

They may have slid into their roster spots but they're nowhere near "replacing" anyone when we're in the bottom 3rd of the league in pass rush.

I get it guys, i like our rooks too but there's no way they should be content with those guys as our answer at Edge just given what we've seen so far.

I believe the Rams are very content with Byron Young at Edge. Ochaun Mathis has only played the equivalent of 1 game and missed most of training camp and the first 4 games. He certainly looks the part... let's see how he plays before looking to replace him already.

I agree, it's def a work in progress and they have been working on bandaids to shore up how bad the pass rush is but I just don't think it's anything we should be standing pat on whether we address it this year, next...draft/fa/trade...whatever, we just need a playmaker at edge.

Rams don't have the Chops at edge this year after the 2024 draft, they will.

Ignored? In the last 4 drafts, they have taken 6 OLB (3 this past draft). Some haven't worked out but that doesn't mean they've "ignored the position".

On the Humphrey/Saffold line I'm referring to fans who can't let shit go. Von Miller was a rental. PERIOD. He was getting old (played 11 games last year and just 2 this year) seeking the most money he could get and we made him an offer that he didn't like. I'm glad he didn't take it, unless we could have paid him by the game. But that's not ignoring it either. Plus, the freakin guy only played 11 games for us. Not like we lost a long time Ram. I connected the two.....losing Miller 2 season's ago and the whining about Creed Humphrey DESPITE a Lombardi...and said why not still whine about losing Saffold...that was only 4 seasons ago!!

As far as "the answer" how the fuck do you know how Young and Mathis are going to turn out? Young is already a stud and Mathis has played 2 games. Geez. Sorta like premature ej.....coming to conclusions waaaaaay too early, doncha think!!

Rams just signed a DT rom Lions PS. Cory Durden.
Durden was an undrafted free agent who signed with Detroit after the Draft but was cut in late-August.

The Rams signed him to their Practice Squad in mid-September; and he got his first game-action on Sunday, with three Rams DL out with injuries. Durden was then added to the 53-man roster a day or two ago.
