didn't Sproles get released last season? Maybe just IRd

I was pretty sure he went to IR. I'm not positive. Tavon in that Sproles role could be so incredibly deadly. Problem is that Gurley has that same ability in his tool kit.

This is what I've been saying since day one. I'm just not sure tavon is as smart as Sproles. Kid was hella good at finding the soft zone in coverages coming out of the backfield. He also had great timing. TA doesn't seem to have those tools. Can he be taught those things? Hard to say, but I believe if he could McVay would have put him on the field more often

Maybe the Rams should offer Sproles a cheap, incentive laden one year deal.... he lives in San Diego so may want to stay out west. Of course who knows if he has anything left?

I agree. I think Mcvay is the guy to find those traits in a player and maybe Tavon just doesn't have it. However, I really think having that wrist surgery had to have an affect on him being implemented into the offense - similar to Sammy.

I still think if you can find Tavon 8 to 10 touches a game - maybe 15 when he is really finding a rhythm, give you a player that frightens any defense. Ultimately I don't think he has the lower base of Sproles to handle what Sproles can do, but I think he can fit in a unique way similar to that

Ultimately with this team, Tavon isn't seeing 8 to 10 touches with Gurley, Woods, Kupp, and this past year Watkins - who Mcvay admitted he needs to do a better job of putting him in a position to succeed.

It's always that one Colts game that people reference. Are there any other examples of how great he can be, or did he just get lucky that one time?
The 2015 season in general he was pretty damn good all over the field whenever he got touches.

Sounds like Tavon is getting released on the 14th from various sources. IF he goes to the Eagles and we meet them in the NFC Championship game :dizzy::dizzy:

Runs an end around and returns one for a TD?:banghead:
:stop:

PS if tavon does indeed get cut can we change the title to this thread? I dunno its kind of disrespectful. Plus TA has always played hard, has always shown respect and class. We should show some too!

Thanks but no thanks Tavon you cost to much.

With Sammy gone, is Tavon back in play to help “distract”? Only save $3 mil buy cutting him and that’s peanuts with the crazy dollars being thrown around in FA.

I was thinking that as well. McVay though stopped using him as a WR. I never understood why he thinks he is a RB & was able to talk McVay into that role ?

Tavon has a good skill set , Pharoh Copper beat him out & was a pro Bowl return man.
Tavon has better skills at times , but Copper is really consistent.

Mike Smith is not going to be suspended. Maybe a The Rams carry an extra TE & OL man as well this season ?

I think will see if it’s players vs position of how the 53 man roster plays out ? McVay keeps things interesting.

I’ll answer a question with a question. Has Tavon ever proven to be a deep threat to take the top off of defenses? That’s what Watkins is.

I wasn’t saying keep him to replace Sammy but to keep the defense honest - decoy. With the money being shelled out today, saving $3 mil by cutting him makes less sense. I think he will stay.

If McVay decides he’s worth $8 million he’ll stay. That’s what Robert Woods has for a cap hit btw.

Decoys only work if they can actually produce on the field. Tavon is a good-great decoy on jet sweeps. Can he actually run routes and get deep enough to make deep catches consistently? Remember, he is only 5-feet, 8-inches so he is shorter than most DBs. It's one thing to occasionally sneak deep if there is a Sammy Watkins to distract additional coverage. It's another thing to be counted on to produce consistently on a regular basis.

Paying a "decoy" 16 million a year and 30 million guaranteed is how you get canned as a GM.

Not losing sleep over this one, full confidence in McVay figuring out a replacement and 593 yards is dog shit production in today's NFL.

You are looking at that the wrong way. Five of the eight million is already spent (unless we can find a trade partner willing to absorb it). If the question is "cut him or don't cut him", the only factor you consider is the $3million required to keep him.

Keeping him costs $8 million this year, cutting him costs $5 million. Does McVay want to pay him8 to stay or 5 to leave.
