His 1.5M contract doomed him I believe. They liked Keenum better especially at a million dollars in savings. So they did not want to take a chance of getting Davis hurt and having to eat his salary, thus he saw limited preseason action.

That's a good point. Keenum at $580K may have been the tie breaker if things were close.

They knew what they had in AD. The goal from the start of the offseason was to find someone to supplant him as #2, if they could.
I agree. They were looking the whole time to upgrade over Davis. He wasn't given the time to truly compete.

That's sad. Hopefully better days are ahead. (y)

Tell me about it... Every loss but one has been to the Hawks, the other was the London game. So when Davis won that game I may have acted like it was the super bowl. Having bragging rights over my dad helped as well.

Really, Jim?

Hello? They have SEASONS worth of film and experience with Davis. They did not need to see a single pass attempt in preseason to make this evaluation.

:palm:

That's out of the way... Good luck AD. I loved your heart out there.

Well he was right, he wasn't given a chance. Not that he would have beat Keenum. $1.5 mill too much even if he did equal CK. But Thomas is right, Davis could have had a monster game or two and made it hard to cut him, but was left no opportunity.

Best of luck to him always knew he would end up in Cleveland and BTW, he's not the best QB Josh McCown is, but it's a mute point because next year is when Cleveland will make a major trade to trade up in the draft and most will think it's to draft the local kid Cardale Jones, but it will actually be for Connor Cook.

I'm really happy for him. Too bad he didn't work out here but he's definitely going to a place where he will very likely see the field. Who knows. Cleveland has a good defense. If they can get the running game going he can be successful there.

Jim was right though. I think the only way Davis was making the team is if Keenum got hurt or sucked real bad. By the way they approached the competition Davis was more of an insurance policy than anything. I don't fault the Rams, but it wasn't really much of a competition for that second spot.

Jim makes it out like the Rams treated him like an after thought. Being the beat guy, he should've seen this coming long ago. Being benched, trading for Case Keenum, drafting Sean Mannion.

Besides, AD had his chance and while he played admirably, it was pretty obvious the dude couldn't control protect the football. Now he's following Thad Lewis' footsteps.

Hopefully, he doesn't convince them to raid the Rams practice squad.

Last I checked, they only have 7 OLinemen on their 53 man roster and 2-3 running backs. And one of those backs has a concussion or something.

We already know what we have in Austin. The Rams are looking to improve, not stay the same. It's a good thing that we've upgraded and gotten better as a team.

I love what AD did for us, and I'm 500% certain he gave his full heart and soul for our team, but it's not like last year was his first year with the team and we just sorta turned on him after. We've had him on our roster for 3 years, if anybody knows what he's about it's the Rams.

I understand all that, he wasn't given a chance in preseason to improve his status or a chance to make the team. 5 pass attempts over 4 games. That's not a chance.

I suspect our practice squad will be raided at least a bit this season. And if so it's a good thing tbh, because good teams have talented players that don't make the cut.

LTP is definitely the top candidate to get raided off the roster because of the difficulty of finding interior DL who can penetrate. He's still raw but injuries are inevitable. Same deal with Battle due to his length and natural feet it's gonna be basic supply and demand so both of them will probably end up signed away as teams go through those injuries.

The Browns, btw, do have good talent at many positions. So it would be nice to see Austin get a shot with them, it's a good place for him to land.

I think 3 years prior is chance enough to prove some worth to the team. Sometimes you get phased out, best of luck to him in Cleveland, but I wouldn't say he didn't get a fair shake. There's years and years of stuff on him.

Well, if Austin beats out Johnyy Football you can expect ESPN to pack up their equipment and head to Washington for any RGIII news.

I don't think I'm making myself clear. I agree that the Rams went off all the previous experience with Davis. It is also correct that he wasn't given time to compete for a job. He was an insurance policy for injuries or Keenum sucking is all. He wasn't competing for a job.
