Another spring football league emerges
Posted by Mike Florio on December 3, 2014
Over the past several years, multiple alternative football leagues have been proposed, launched, and quietly abandoned. Another alternative football league is coming.
On Wednesday, initial plans will be unveiled for Major League Football, a spring league that promises at its website to be “the fastest game on turf.” The league vows to provide “more football in 60 minutes,” which possibly means a play clock that will require teams to get to the line of scrimmage and initiate their next play quickly.
The league’s interim CEO will be former Bears G.M. and former Lions V.P. of player personnel Jerry Vainisi, who helped launch NFL Europe more than 20 years ago.
Major League Football (also known as MLFB, which may or may not spawn unfortunate nicknames and/or typos) is due to debut in 2016. Other former NFL executives and coaches will be involved in the project, which will launch as a publicly-traded company.
Announcements on the cities hosting MLFB are coming. Until then, get more info at http://www.mlfb.com/. And make sure you get that domain name entered correctly, especially if you’re checking it out while at work.
