Maybe you're right but I keep thinking maybe JimmyG want to play for the McVay Rams or nobody and has a handshake deal to come back if they need him.

BC
Maybe so. It's possible he doesn't want to move around, and likes where he's at in LA. I'm not saying I know for sure. Rather I'm just trying to read between the lines and cook up a theory which I think explains the indicators.

I actually don't think it is.

And it may not be that black or white.. but it might be Jimmy sitting back.. not wanting anything to do with camp.. and just waiting for the call, if needed. Simply a.. "shit, why not?" type-thing where he just wouldn't want to learn another team and offense at this point.
I just don’t get this whole thing about not wanting to be in camp. I can see it for a lot of positions- but QB? Linemen are out there grinding while a QB is wearing a red jersey that says “can’t touch this”. The way Stafford and the other QBs have talked, it seems that they actually like camp. I really think that when it comes to QBs, the not wanting to go through camp is WAY overblown.

Excellent point. There may be another angle. JG has been with the Rams 2 years. He knows the playbook. He knows the RBs, TEs and WRs. Maybe it's a little frustrating to take snaps in camp on Stafford's day off, work your butt off, knowing full well, you ain't playing come September.

FWIW, I think it's more about starting. He's 35. If somebody around the NFL goes down, he may be getting a call to back up somebody like Fields. Or Trubisky. Or Pickett. You know, somebody who could start a game or two and get benched.

Yeah… I think it has far more to do with starting than wanting to avoid the “dog days of camp” or some other nonsense.

I doubt the guy needs money. I also doubt he wants to go somewhere to hold a clipboard or to go to a team that will be fighting to get out of the cellar.

Problem is that I don’t think he’s someone teams are clamoring to sign. If a team loses their starter, that could possibly change. But it’s quite possible that the only team would be the Rams and only due to familiarity.

I’m guessing Grabmypole stays retired.

We’ll see. Not looking that far into it. What I do know last year at this time,Merlin was FREAKING OUT thinking Jimmy G was going to start The 2025 as The Rams starting QB !!
Mattew Stafford has come a long ways from then. Ask Rivers how retirement went last year & AD99 his future as a NFL player ?

Evans has some admirable traits, but he didn't rank top 10 last year in Net Ave. Granted punting stats are funny in that inside the 20 punts don't always help Net Ave.

But, he's not been the Johnny Hekker I hoped he'd be.

Yeah, I think this is the closest theory. I think we wants a chance to start. He's probably tired of holding a clipboard.

His best shot is if the Rams call him if Stafford goes down for a long time. On the Rams end, if Stafford is only out for a couple of games, they go with Bennett or Simpson.

Evans out kicks his coverage occasionally plus his worst punt of his career was in the Championship game at Seattle last year, however, I expect an uptick in his performance with better coaching and no longer being the kick off specialist.

I didn't know where to start to add my 2 cents on the Jimmy G subject.

I've been thinking that Jimmy G could be called in if Stafford gets hurt during the season. Rams don't have to pay a full year's salary that way. A lot could depend on when Stafford gets hurt and the severity of the injury. I'm not confident in Bennett as the backup. Simpson may take over the backup spot. There is still the AD contract, should he reup. At this point it's all speculation. No one knows for sure what McVay/Snead are thinking.
