When I was in the Navy , I had a roommate that was a huge Slade fan , I had never heard of them before , this was in the mid 80's , after Quiet Riot's Metal Health album had c0me out , So I was actually surprised to learn Quite Riot's songs were remakes

My roommate had every album Slade had ever made , even all the imports , which was kind of a tough thing to do back in the 80's

I was never really much of a Quiet Riot fan , I think it had to do with their singer Kevin DuBrow , there was just something about that guy that always bugged me

And you're right , outside of a couple Slade remakes , Quiet Riot didn't have much success

Australian hard rock band Ragdoll redefine the term power trio. Since 2011 the band, comprising Ryan Rafferty (vocals and bass), Cam Barrett (drums) and Leon Todd (guitar), have pioneered a hybrid between classic bombast and modern muscle some have dubbed "hair grunge". A fine balance between raw power, monstrous hooks and intricate musicianship has seen the band through four releases and three international tours, expanding well beyond their isolated home in Perth to share the stage alongside heavyweights Guns'n'Roses, Korn, Alice in Chains and more.

The world's most isolated capital city, and home to little more than 1.5 million people, Perth, Western Australia, is renowned as a hub for indie and roots music; hardly the place you'd expect to find a band channeling the golden age of American and European rock music. Guitarist Leon Todd explains "Not many people our age grow up listening to the likes of Rush, Purple, Sabbath and Zeppelin, so when you meet a fellow musician who shares your taste and your passion for high quality rock music, you tend to stick together. We're just lucky to have found one another and to have all shared a similar vision for our ideal band".

Ragdoll's latest offering, "Ragdoll Rewound", brings this ideal to life over 9 studio tracks and 4 exclusive live tracks. Merging the swagger of the 70s, the anthemic melodies of the mid 80s and the sonic intensity of the modern era. Refined through a series of independent EP releases and a prodigious international touring schedule, the bands approach is best described by lead vocalist and bass player Ryan Rafferty "we bring together all the things that we, as rock music fans, love about all our favorite bands; power, melody and groove. "

Be it the histrionics of tracks like the raucous single "Tell Me" and "Foot to the Floor" or the understated emotion of "Heaven Above", Ragdoll are not short on any of these three elements. Ryan Rafferty is a revelation on lead vocals, with a vocal tone in the mould of David Coverdale or the late Steve Lee. Together with Cam Barrett on drums, the two form a powerful rhythm section drawing on the classic power trio format of Cream, Rush and Kings X. Rising young gun Leon Todd rounds out the trio on guitar, and is quickly forging a reputation for his consummate song craft and electric live performances.

2015 has already seen Ragdoll nominated for a prestigious Western Australian Music award for the track "Here Today" off "Ragdoll Rewound" as well as landing a slot at the Rocklahoma festival in the USA, alongside Linkin Park, Slayer and Godsmack. A short tour of the USA will follow, including a headline show at the infamous Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood, accompanied by a brand new single and music video, "Rewind Your Mind".

I'm back from Costa Rica...As most of you know, Chris Squire of Yes passed onward. Yes is one of my 3 all time favorite bands. And Chris's bass lines are very dear to me. All my hero's are dying. So sad. Chris was cremated. Chris Squire's widow asked all his fans to play their favorite Chris piece. I combed thru the entire Yes catalog, and Onward from Tormato spoke to me, because Chris wrote Onward and the lyrics seemed appropriate to such a solemn occasion.
