Cool story but before I went to college in 94-96 or so I was playing with some band that did sort of Mick Taylor era Rolling Stones vibe and we'd play with that crowd like the wallflowers, Brian Jonestown massacre etc, so I was all into my music of course I still needed to make money
In LA most of the people who go to see shows are in the film industry so you get a lot of crossover there.
The lead singer in the band (who has since gone missing) had a job answering phones at Squeel pictures, a music video boutique firm right there off the 101 across the stret from universal
So long story longer, the lead singer needs me to cover his shift, so I do, but in the process of sitting there at this cool compound and answering phones I decided to kill time by doing he dishes and cleaning up
Well the producers and been trying to get my lead singer to do that for months, so they fired him and hired me
He was pisses for a day, but truly was ready to move on.
Well the cool thing is that they had a cool roster of directors that were linked back to Stiff records like Nigel Dick and Peter Christopherson (sp?)
So when these guys would shoot a video let's say Peter for Rage Against the Machine is get to visit set, but just to hang out and check it out. So whenever is go the band would think me, the phone guy, was a producer and bro down with me - it was rad

The best thing was that Nigel Dick directed all the Oasis videos so I was always there when they shot in LA - so I got to see some killer stuff

Eventually they promoted me to work on the set with Nigel Dick as an assistant, but by hen I had a kid and my wife so I decided if go to design school

Anyway I never really realized how fucking cool all that was cause i was trying to be a rock star

Thanks for the story, @Dieter the Brock .

I tried in every way possible to make it to the big time as a musician but alas. There were always people and things that got in the way. In every band I played in it seemed like the singer was the biggest pain, with the drummer coming in a distant second. Then there was all the self-medicating, egos, and women that got in the way. I was in a band where the other guitarist even had his own Yoko Ono. She was Asian, fat, and mouthy, lol.

At the end of the day I guess I had neither the talent, drive or people skills to hang in there long enough to make it. It wasn't meant to be. Still haven't given up though after all these years. I'm in the process of buying a new guitar and drum machine to aid me in the recording process, which btw my wife isn't too keen on, lol.

You need to get that guitar!!! recording today is super easy and makes those tascam 4 track days seem absolutely silly!
As far your wife, what I do is which ever song I am messing with I say I am writing it for her - even if it's about burgling a liqueur store - works for me

That won't work with my wife in this case. I've been writing songs based on the book of Revelation with a prog-rock sound like 'In the Court of the Crimson King.' I don't think I can squeeze her in there. :) Besides, I had her listen to the whole album over the weekend and she didn't like it.

Here's the guitar I'm buying...

Here's the drum machine...

I'm using FL Studio 10 which is designed more for electronica and hip-hop but I bought it long ago when it was only $150 and it has lifetime upgrades so I've stuck with it.

Ziggy carrying on the tradition. I've always liked that song. So upbeat! Thanks @Selassie I. My neighbor across the street has a giant poster of Bob Marley in his window facing me. That type of music is always playing over there.

Ziggy is dancing around in that one. His little brother Stephen is singing. Got some Sistren singing backups too.

I've got a large framed black and white of Bob in my garage. Clearly visible when my garage door is open. And this may be a shocker,,, but reggae is playing somewhere in my house most of the time. I like the sound of your neighbor. Hahahahaha
