When you have animals doing the fighting it is not a sport....unless you're fighting the animal and its not bull fighting.

If you fight a bear or a moose with gloves, ill call you anything you want, but to throw a chicken in a ring to fight another chicken is bullcrap and inhumane.

Now if Suh wrestled a bear...not sure if it would be a sport, but I would do pay-per-view

I can see why. That's absurd. What is your definition of sport?
Generally, my personal and intentionally inflammatory definition of a sport is a team based athletic activity in which the participants actively work against each other to score points (but not too many points [I'm looking at you basketball] and not to few points [soccer]).

My aversion to calling boxing and MMA sports is because they are defined by their unsportsmanlike conduct. Punching someone
in the face is not something a sportsman does. Neither are most MMA activities.

Don't get me wrong. I love MMA. I really miss doing combatives and training in Judo. I just can't throw somebody in the air, lock them in an arm bar, and pretend like I'm being a sportsman.

Sports are, or were designed to be, about friendly competition and using human limits. Fighting events are about hurting people bad enough that they give up or dominating them enough that somebody decided you won. I'd be willing to accept combatsports in a similar way I suggested we use motorsports, maybe, but the focus, intent, and outcome is totally different in MMA and boxing than it is in other sports.

I agree. WWE is a play, like Cats or Rent. NASCAR is definitely not a sport. However, I am willing to accept motorsport as a completely different genre of competitive stuff and say that NASCAR is a motorsport.

Most people don't understand what NASCAR drivers go through. I'm not what you would call a NASCAR fan as I only watch a couple races a year, but what they go through physically and mentally over 3 hours is amazing.

I've raced for 3 hours averaging 125 from L.A. to San Francisco but that's nothing compared. These guys lose 6, 7 pounds of water and keep it together at close to 200 mph in tight traffic. Imagine that level of traffic stress.

Now golf.. Holy shit how many people work their entire life so they can play a couple rounds of golf a week? Do you need to be an athlete to compete at a higher level? Exhibit A; John Daly.

What they go through might be tough. That doesn't make it a sport, but it does mean that I can respect the heck out of it.

Out of curiosity, why would you post it then, especially since it's already been posted multiple times in this thread?
To that I was unaware since I simply skipped the 45 or more pages of useless updates and banter. ( now that I look at it it has a date of March 18th) so pretty ancient in the whole subject matter of Suh. The previous tweet I posted that looked real and was out of wanting to be the first to post on the matter. Didn't realize it would have the effect it did but was good to have some members get a bit of humor out of it. The last one was more to those that thought I was a douche for posting the previous tweet.
I mean, it's not cute, funny or informative so.....
I could say that for a lot of posts on this board but hey a board is 95% opinion right?

Yeah, interesting. It’s easier to define something as a sport if athletes are competing. Football players need to be strong, agile and fast. Golfers not so much. There’s a lot of money both. Hard to say. Some things are clearly sports and other things are kind of just competitions.

Just because somethings tough doesn't make it a sport. If it did we'd all be world class athletes waiting on this suh deal and reading this thread. Other factors include, but are not limited to, the fact that it is a race, its very physically and mentally demanding, and its head to head against other people who have the same skill set.

That makes my commute to work a sport most days.

Since you don't get recognition outside the occasional middle finger, I'd say in cities like L.A., San Francisco and Seattle, its more like a mad max survival thing, and may god be with you.

I am new to the forum. It looks like a great place to get information and having fun doing it. Not to be all sacrilegious but I I don't think posting something that is KNOWINGLY fake (masked as a legitimate tweet) as being fun or informative. Maybe I will learn that is just part of the forum.

As I stated before the tweet actually had his twitter handle right which seemed to be legit, recently tweeted it seemed really legit until after I posted it and could not get any other websites ( nfl.com, yahoo etc) that confirmed it which told me it could be fake. Annnnndddd then seeing the responses back on the site I figured it probably was. So it wasn't meant to be funny but if your still not feeling good about it I can give you a belly rub and a glass of warm milk?

p.s. a very good website and good people, posts, and very informative on everything to do with our Rams! :) Welcome!
