I'm curious what the total yield was for meat?

What sharks did you catch? Did you keep any?

Mostly it's blacktips around here, probably the same down there I'd guess.

One of these days I'm going to rent a charter and go out and catch a ton of stuff to freeze and devour. Probably not a good plan since it would be cheaper to just buy the stuff LOL.

A friend of mine was in the Keys a couple of years ago and brought me back some stuff and for the life of me I cannot remember what it was. The meat was dark ruby red and fairly dense. I seared it then hit it with a little lime juice and man oh man it was delicious.

The other day I was in Costco and they had wild caught Ahi in LARGE chunks. Like football sized pieces. I was tempted and now wish I had just gone ahead and bought some and spent three days eating nothing but that all day haha.

Honestly I am surprised at the lack of diversity in the stores around here when it comes to fish. Gulf shrimp are awesome, maybe the best, but there doesn't seem to be much variety in the fish. And snapper is too expensive to eat very often. It's a bummer.

We caught a big variety of sharks. The one in the pic is a nurse shark. We also caught blacktips, reef, hammerheads, bonnet heads, and a few other species. We don't keep any sharks... they are always released. I would keep a Mako if I ever caught one as they are good to eat, but haven't nabbed one of those yet. We call sharks The Tax Man because they are bad about stealing some, or all, of our catches. We weren't trying to catch them... they are just eating our bait that was meant for something else.

We had a big # of hungry mouths to feed with us... including four 18yr old boys who can eat unlimited quantities. We were just happy to make a solid attempt at filling everyone's belly with fresh fish. I prepared it in a variety of ways. There's nothing like eating fish that was caught the same day.

Pick up some of that tuna at Costco and sear it in your cast iron skillet. Cut it so that it is in hunks like you'd be served when ordering Ahi in a restaurant. Slice it after searing. All you need to do is put some quality oil on it, then salt & pepper (I like a bunch of pepper), and some sesame seeds (optional). Sear all sides of the tuna for no more than 30 seconds on each side. The middle will be still red and perfect.

I've seen dolphins do the same thing to guys fishing of the pier in Naples and it's funny. One guy was toying with a dolphin and keeping it just out of the water so the dolphin was very visible and all of the kids were really loving that.

I know that ceviche was delish! I love good ceviche and there is a wine bar near me that makes a great one.

Next time I see the tuna at Costco I think I am going to take the leap and get it and eat that for a few days haha. For sure the sesame seeds are a nice touch.

You're right about fresh fish, there is nothing like it. I used to eat walleye back home that friends would catch in the morning and we would cook for dinner. Nothing like it!

@JIMERAMS

Great pics Man. Nothing is more attractive to me than a girl who loves fishing.... it's one of the main reasons I got married to my wife. LOL. And I'm serious.

I recognize almost all of the fish in your pics. It's wild how different they are from coast to coast.

We're going out this weekend for some dolphin, wahoo, or cobia. Fishing back in my backyard waters now though. East coast of FL near Daytona Beach... 50 miles out. Maybe I'll have some more fish pics to post then. I never get tired of checking out fish pics.

Awesome pics man. I'll have to upload a few. I don't have daughters but my wife is quite the huntress. She has taken four deer and has only taken 4 shots. We do our own loading so we are very confident in our loads. Takes some of the trepidation out of some of the shots.

@Selassie I love the pics. Please do post some if you are successful this weekend.

Great thread guys, keep em coming. My wife used to love to go out on the overnites before my son was born, my how children change things we haven't been fishing in quite some time.
My wife Laurie is from Alaska so we tend to do most our fishing when visiting family up there. The fishing and quality of the fish in Alaska is amazing. Great Pics and beautiful families @Selassie I and @JIMERAMS
