LA's connection to the Rams has a 20 year hole in it; figure if someone is under 30, they didn't grow up a Rams fan, save the folks who came on board during the GSOT years.

Whichever franchise becomes a winner and exciting to watch week-in week-out will take over the position of LA's favorite team from the Raiders. It's a race.

I'm thinking about it. They do have a rich tradition and several titles.
Wait... never mind.

Must be Spanos' ingenious marketing strategy.

I feel sorry for any fan of a franchise with a broke @$$ owner like Spanos. Only truth you can rely on with him is that even if he gets things right it won't last long.

People can bag on the Rams for their non-playoff run and all, but since Stan has taken over he's fielded a near-500 team from a team that was a shambles before that, and built a world class stadium with the move to LA. So IMO as Rams fans we are finally entering that window where we get to benefit from years of pain and suffering under Georgia. Any fan who is stupid enough to switch over to another situation like that in becoming a Chargers fan is nuts. IMO.

Rams have more history in LA.
Rams have an owner with far deeper pockets.
Rams arrived a year earlier.

Only way that Chargers get a leg up on Rams is if the product on the field (ie W-L) is vastly superior for Chargers.
As that won't happen, there is nothing to worry about.

Well... Chargers have been a two hour drive from LA for the past 56 years... in a salary cap league, "deep pockets" from an owner don't really make a huge difference... and the Rams kinda drove away fans with last year's showing.

You are absolutely right that whichever team shows on-field success first will have a huge leg up on the other. The good news is that the Raiders are not in LA, and that the Chargers have been boring and mediocre since time immemorial.

Goff developing would be the biggest thing... Rivers only has a couple years left, the teams are roughly even at RB, and both have a young pass-rushing superstar (Aaron Donald is the best player in the NFL currently; Bosa was super exciting as a rookie). Chargers have the talent lead at WR, Rams have the talent lead overall on defense.

If Goff turns into a good-to-great QB, the Rams will be able to snatch up the fanbase with both star power and on-field success.

The Chargers have fans ?

I think we've just seen their entire marketing plan, and the budget is now exhausted.

Although the salary cap limits spending on players, there are other ways to create value. Kronke spent 7M per year on Fisher. Although we have all seen that the money was not well spent, he signed the check. This goes for the entire coaching staff, front office, etc.

Marketing is one of many other areas.

At the end, the right decisions need to be made especially in drafting players, developing players and coaching (gameplan). New coach, new GM (Fisher was the boss IMO).
These have been important decisions

No way bro, they're waiting to reveal their next big marketing thing: a re-recording of the "San Diego Super Chargers" song starring Philip Rivers and Joey Bosa as the dancers. It will have two impacts: one, it will be the most awkward group of NFL players dancing together since the Super Bowl Shuffle; and two, Keenan Allen will tear his ACL during the shoot.

Last time I went to a Charger game, I saw more Raider fans in Qualcomm.

I'm wondering how well regarded will be Rivers to L.A., he basically said he hates the place prior to his new contract, saying he didn't want any part of moving here. I'm hoping the crowd boos him throughout the game.
