I remember some of the stupid stuff he was getting in trouble for - being late, sleeping in, one week he missed the team flight and took the next one.

Kind of funny the stuff you consider stupid, the team views differently.

Those are all character traits of having a JOB. Just curious how long do you think your employer would keep you around if you just simply showed up late and over slept?

I think it's great that we have enough talent to debate who makes the roster and who doesn't, and be legitimately disappointed that a guy won't be able to make our roster.

In the past, high schoolers could have started for us.

It's stupid because they're not gigantic in the grand scheme of things, like felonies (hernandez/sharper/aldon smith/etc), uploading porn up to an instagram account (kenny brit), going redneck pcp crazy in a pool bar shouting at people (incognito),etc. you get the idea.

Trust me - he paid for 'em. I'm going to assume that you didn't know that Pead was also the result of other forms of embarassment and what not to do (easy to get it through someones head when you put em on the spot.) when pead over slept in mini camp, they made him sleep at rams park on a matress - and then Fisher outsted him to the rookies as what not to do

One thing that I think that is often misunderstood/under valued/not realized is that not all people in the military are like pro athletes in the sense that they easily have another job if the military doesn't work out - especially for discinplinary reasons.. uhm no.. if you're dumb enough to get kicked out, that can haunt you for the rest of your life - especially depending on your job. That's not a same fear an NFL player would share - finding employment would be much easier for them vs someone dumbly discharged...so if those egg heads can't get it, you gotta rethink twice about a high school graduate, graduating from college and probably never ever really experienced any type of form, structure, or professional employment.

Being a pro encompasses everything. Being to practice on time AND staying out of trouble. There are no cherry picking rules that you decide are important or not.

I'm not cherry picking rules - I agree with fisher for benching him for breaking them.

But to act like these rules are huge deals after he grew out of it is ridiculous - especially since they're minor; it's not like he has to go see a judge or face NFL discipline.

Glad to see a lot of the posters in here are so forgiving. Nothing like turning the page, and letting the coaches make these decisions. But let it be Robert Quinn that makes the same sort of mistakes,, oh wait,, he did, and it was dealt with.. but yet, no one harps on it because its NOT Pead.

For everything that has gone on with the franchise over the years, I will never understand why TWO players still have to be the scapegoats for this faction of the fan base! They were SECOND round draft picks and yet, there are still a lot of people who will never be satisfied with what they contribute because it obviously won't live up to THEIR expectations.

Glad the coaching staff doesn't feel that way about guys who are just getting ready to enter their 3rd season.

I do not see any battle for the starting two DT's posts. What I see is a new tag team partner who can be inserted at both DT posts @ any time as to increase the overall strength of the two DT on the field. The addition of AD is not to kick any of the starters out but to make whomever in on the field fresher and stronger!

I do not see any battles ongoing either @ the two corner positions JJ & TJ are the starters period with rookie Lamarcus Joyner as the Nickle. McGee, Woodard & rookie Gaines as back ups and making the 53 master roster. McGee will be the Dimeback. Rookie Gaines will back up Joyner @ the Nickle.

The biggest Camp battle on our Ram defense will be @ the two safety starting posts. There is no telling what is going to come out of this safety cadre. This will be fun to watch. I would not be surprised at all if we see something surprising jell up here. Just say that if that rookie Mo is what our DC wants on the field as his main safety targeted blitzer then we could even see two very large safeties starting in our secondary with the rookie Alexander moving into the strong safety position and TJ McDonald going deep! But two new rookies coming in at safety to go with the other youngsters McLeod-Davis & Daniels this is where you will want to set up your TC camp seat at.

With the new rookie RB Mason coming in things will certainly heat up. But Mason will undergo surgery that could retard his work in TC. I will say this anyone thinking that Benny Cunningham is an afterthought here you will be making a big mistake. The rookie Cunningham was not 100% last yr in returning from knee surgery. This season will be a whole different story. Cunningham has several running gears we have not seen since he has been a Ram.

WR's?? I just say this ....Stedman Bailey & Tavon Austin rest will be an afterthought why bother.

Now in conclusion to the OL our weakest overall 2013 unit. Fisher lost three key OL'ers during free agency two were the 2013 starting OG's & a back up swing OT.The other was the key top reserve the last two seasons @ OG. Rams did not draft any OG's instead draft a OT & a OC. There should be no real serious TC battles for starting posts. Rookie Robinson will be the starting left OG with ORG Saffold with Barksdale & Long @ OT's. Most figure the Rams would release Scott Wells due to cap hit to save $$$ and insert the much bigger stronger Barrett Jones.

There might be an issue with this line of thought now. Rams are absent any back up OT when you play & start your best five OL'ers. Purchasing a UFA is expensive $$$ but possible. Rams have five centers now ....you should be able to do without one of them so one of them could fill the need @ swing OT. Rams have only one legitimate OL who has experience in college at both OT posts....Barrett Jones. Snead did draft a small school ORT in now Ram rookie Mitchell Van Dyk.

There is also OT UDFA Sean Hooey & jack of all OL positions the 6-7 310 pound Graham Pocic. He was on the Ram IR roster the entire 2013 season from shoulder surgery back in 2012. At OG Rams have Brandon Washington who has been a Ram now going into his third season. There is also the small but tough Mile Persons who has been on several other western division teams. At Center let Barnes-Wells & rookie Demetrius Rhaney do the center thing.

OLT- Long/Jones/Robinson/Hooey
OLG- Robinson/Washington/
OC- Wells/Barnes/Rhaney
ORG- Saffold/Persons/Pocic
ORT- Barksdale/Jones/Van Dyk

A lot of the battles I mention are either for playing time or depth positions.

I agree, I hope this is the year that Pead and Quick really step up and contribute. I believe they will enter training camp with every chance to win a spot on the depth chart worthy of a lot of playing time. I am optimistic that we will see marked improvement. I would like to know how active they have been in the offseason.
CoachO are you going to give us some camp reports again this year?

You list all these good battles and you leave out one of the closest and most intriguing battles: starting WR. I think we can all agree that Stedman will be one of the starting WRs, but the battle for the other outside spot is between Britt, Givens, ad Quick

I have every intention on being there and reporting on what I see. This training camp could and should be like none in recent memory.

As many have mentioned, there will be plenty of competition all over the roster this year. And I fully expect things to change quite a bit now that the draft and UDFA are in the fold.

The next wave I anticipate, will be the vets still on the market, and soon to hit the market. I believe they will try and bring in some veteran help at some of the units where they can use it. i.e LB and maybe a vet O-lineman (H. Dahl as mentioned previously)

As fare as the 2point conversion, that play was designed for Pead because he was the only RB on the sideline with energy.

Was just watchin the Ram highlights and I ran across this. Stacy ran the same play in which he scored his first TD - week 7, several weeks before Pead had his 2 pointer. I mentioned this was in Schottys playbook and not just pead specific, so here's an example of it.

What I know for sure is that going into, and producing the final roster WILL find the Rams with a deeper team across most units of their team, compared with last season.

However, for them to take the next step forward and go from having a nice, solid, deep at most position, type team to an actual winning team two major things have to happen:

1) the highly youthful roster than already exists (and looks to stay at least as young or even younger after this camp!) needs to develop as productive football players. Guys need to find their games and apply the talents they had that got them drafted during the past 2-3 years with NFL coaching and game experience. We need the young guys to go from young inexperienced, inconsistent players trying to find their way around, to productive NFL players. If that doesn't happen, either due to them not being able to make the next step or not willing, then having "young" players is a waste.

2) Playmakers. For every game that is won with a "solid" consistent effort, so many games come down to 1-4 special plays that can win/lose a game or change the momentum in some way. We have watched how Quinn can single-handedly change a game from the D side of the ball and how someone like Austin can change a game with 1-2 big offensive plays. We need the existing playmakers to continue to make big plays but we also need to add more to the mix. This needs to be a team that has multiple playmakers on both sides of the ball not just 1-2 overall IMO
