Selling at #40 indicates a very deep Draft or conversely a belief that the talent has already gone.

Or lots of holes/needs. I'd say it could be any of the three or it could just be a myriad of other reasons (herd mentality?) but why isn't all that important compared to the fact that it exists. Us old farts use all our accumulated wisdom to take advantage of these opportunities. Or we just step into it.

Or sometimes the talent is great there, but it's not at what you need. Instead of one great talent that doesn't fit, you can have a good and a decent one (maybe even two good ones depending on trade and depth of draft) at positions that do fit your needs or scheme. And maybe the person trading up feels the great talent that does fit is worth it. There's a lot that goes into trading down

Sometimes the talent in the draft isn't always obvious. Perhaps there are several great underrated players that I am betting will slip right by those who are drafting off the media prospect boards. I just needed more picks in the later rounds to snatch them up.

The Bengals lost their two anchors on the left side of the offense. They've drafted two OT who have underperformed since being picked but they have nobody to step in for Zeitler. At 6'5" 311 lbs he is refined enough and powerful enough to step in and start day 1 as a rookie.
