A lot of posters here went apeshit when Shelton was signed. Saying we overpaid and screwed up.

There's hardly been a peep about him all year... which for an OL is a good thing.
PFF has him rated at 79.1 overall for the season which is well above average. And an elite 88.6 in run blocking.

A lot of us don't care about PFF and realize it's a flawed grading system because the people doing the grading don't know the scheme or the assignments on each play they're assigning a good or bad grade on.

Lets also not pretend that he's been great. He's got a lot of plays out there on tape that proves people both right and wrong in their judging him.

Understandable perspective. I like PFF to confirm what I'm seeing.

Which in this case is that the entire OL, including Shelton, is playing well for the last several weeks. Shelton struggled some at the beginning of the season, but turned things around.

He wasn't good early in the season when the line didn't have strong guards next to him, as he would get pushed back into the QB. But as the guard play settled down on the left side things improved.

I think we have a good handle on who Shelton is. He's a very smart center who was brought back for his calls. Gotta keep him protected though, he's not going to be able to handle a good NT by himself.

While it's nice that he's gotten better as better play next to him wouldn't it be nice to have a center that likewise elevated the Guards who could then elevate the Tackles?

Without a doubt. We're in agreement there.

TRUTH imo is that ALL those F”Img people!! Including ME who wants to say TUTU ATWELL was a mistake over say that (what’s his name) a center. That player has an expensive contract? Which I don’t really know.

What I will say is Tutu Atwell is a guy SEAN MCVAY still LOVES! He believes IN & has patience in him coming back for THE PLAYOFFS (Green).
IMO - guys like Bubba Ram are WRONG!!! Say what you want, but Colman Shelton is a EXCELLENT center!! I say that because of his VALUE!! Plus MATTHEW Stafford likes he is a Left Handed Snapper as an example????

MY POINT!!! He is having an All Pro season!!! Maybe his best career NFL season as a pro

He seems solid with Avila and Dotson next to him. With Dedich (and I think Dotson was working through something) he looked shaky. Plus Stafford likes what he’s doing, which is all I need.

Avila is a killer in the run game. We're still streaky in pass pro, but our guys can really run block.
Plus Shelton's strength is the line calls/communication and why he was brought back. As posted earlier Avila & Dotson can protect Shelton, but Shelton & Stafford have an excellent rapport and Shelton's ability to adjust protections is an asset.

Moving forward have to keep #9 clean and run the ball down the opponent's throat because that is how you destroy or take the heart out of a defense.

Absolutely! I think most of us would love an upgrade.
And yet we can do mock offseasons and replace him and people will lose their minds. It can be pointed out that while his pff trade is good he's not a great center likewise people will argue it with you.

I see a flawed player, hell most of the time people talk about how he got better when Avilla came back. Give me a guy who makes the guards better, the description of why he's gotten better to me describes a JAG.

IMO, Shelton was brought back for his communication acumen and the way Limmer has looked this year, thank god they did. Now, this should not stop the Rams from drafting a player like Pat Coogan from Indiana. Perfect transition and Coogan is bigger, holds up very well at the point of attack and is also excellent at calling out protections. If the Rams make a move like that, nobody will be upset IMHO.
