I don't think this rule has anything to do with concussion prevention. Just throwing flags to protect QB ribs. They can armor up the QBs if that is the concern, just don't take away the sack.

They aren't flagging slams (which were illegal when Jim Youngblood bodyslammed that vikings QB 40 years ago). They are flagging 300lb linemen for common sacks if they unable to change their direction midair to avoid landing on a QB.Its the extra effort to inflict injury that makes it a penalty. If the defender just drags the QB down or rolls it is still a sack. But when they jump to drive all their weight into the QB in an attempt to injure them it is a penalty. Once the QB is going down there is no reason to drive your weight onto them.
Not sure why so many people see it as a bad rule, every play I have seen flagged has been a blatant attempt to injure the QB, just take the sack and be happy with a ggod play. Attempting to injure the QB takes away from what could have been a good play.
How are you supposed to tackle him when u hit the QB square ridiculous. They say they want you to roll off as u tackle - sure I am sure when tackling a player squarely you can think to roll to the side not forgetting it is very hard to even do that agsia when u hit the QB directly.

It's stupid as crap. Don't remember seeing a QB get hurt from that happening. Hate it.
OFC when its someone like Rodgers or Brady, they gotta make a new rule about it. Who else has gottten hurt from it? I just don't remember many is all. They are calling it The Aaron Rodgers rules...That's how he broke his collar bone last year
Obviously you didn't play competitive football. I did in high school and Jr. College. As I played OT and DL at 6'4" and 310lbs.These players are making snap decisions and when you're trying to make sure you tackle someone you use every bit of energy you have to make sure a player to down. If you don't you might not make the tackle. Its the extra effort to inflict injury that makes it a penalty. If the defender just drags the QB down or rolls it is still a sack. Oh this is not a trained move it comes naturally. Watch a group of kids playing football and you'll see them doing the same thing. There things yes you can teach and train when it comes to safety, but you can't teach someone how to go against what is natural, what is instinct.

Not true. If a lineman lands on top of the QB it's a penalty. Period. Had a Viking player land on top of Jimmy G., never launched himself, hit him as he was passing. Landed on top of him 15 yards. If you watch the hits that are flagged, the defender launches himself into the QB after the QB is already going down. If they dont leave their feet as the QB is going down, no flag. The Rams are coached to wrap and roll when sacking the QB so I dont think we will see to many flags on the Rams for this. Suh was not flagged for his hit on Watson the the preseason, because he didnt launch himself onto Watson as Watson was going down. IMO the plays I have seen flagged were dirty plays and deserve flags.

I'm "this close :headexplosion:" to fishing on Sunday's instead of watching what's becoming flag football.
